Winter is finally here. As I write, it is 9 degrees outside. I am giving Magnum Adequan shots once a week and so far he has been doing good. I have tried taking the dogs for walks this past week but I think it is too cold for them. We also had a little bit of snow and the trucks were out salting the road. I think between the cold and the salt, it is hard for them to go for walks right now. Magnum will walk a little ways and then he'll stop and hike up his bad leg. He'll hop on 3 legs while shaking his bad leg back. Then he will put the leg down and walk on it again the rest of the way. I think we may just not take the dogs for walks unless it is 20 degrees or higher. Fritz and Pepper will limp sometimes too. Pepper will just sit on the road with his front paws up in the air when he gets too cold. Then we have to pick him up and carry him.
Magnum was so funny last week. We took him for the first walk by the lake since the lake froze. He was doing his typical lake cry, pulling, barking and biting on the leash, trying to get me to the lake quicker. We finally got to the lake and he couldn't figure out where the lake went. He went down to the shore and looked and sniffed, but no water. :-) We walked along the shore and he would periodically go out to the ice and sniff looking for the lake. We told him he finally scared it away since he's always barking at it. :-P He doesn't care much for walking on the ice even though it has a little bit of snow on it. He always wants to weave back and forth but I don't like him on that crunchy ice because I'm afraid it will cut his paws.
I'm afraid the walks are going to be cancelled for the doggies until it warms up a little bit. Magnum could be having a little trouble with the plate in his leg getting cold. My other thought was to make him a pair of pants out of an old sweatshirt or something to keep his leg warm. Still thinking about how to do that as he wants to mark everything in sight.
I am trying different supplements with him but he had diarrhea so I had to stop everything and start all over again. I'm trying one thing at a time so I can figure out what he can take and what he can't. He doesn't seem to be able to take Salmon Oil.
