Mrs. Willson's Very Excellent Science and Social Studies Adventures
Space... the final frontier.  Our job was to boldly go where these young children may very well spend part of there future...Space.  While we were there, each child sent a postcard from the edge of the universe with their picture saying hello during their space walk.
From the future to the past.  During our dinosaur and fossil unit the students had to measure a large dino. After making predictions as to the dinosaurs height, total length, length of neck, tail and legs, they each made a "foot". (photocopy of a ruler attached to a blue shape they made that "resembled" a foot)  We taped the feet  together and were able to measure by counting feet.   Nine feet tall....22 feet long....Neck 7...tail 9...legs2.  During the unit the children were surprised to learn that some dinosaurs were big and some were very small.  Many animals that lived during the time of the dinosaurs were not dino's at all but just regular reptiles.

We loved this unit!  Many children were able to bring to school fossils they found at home  to share with the class.  We made Theropod (meat eater) and Souropod (plant eater) necklaces out of a recipe of play dough that the children had to measure and mix all by themselves.  Two scoops of flour, one scoop of salt and one scoop of water.  Mix and knead (We also learned the kn sound just says /n/)  Bake in a low oven after making holes in the top for a string.
