The Prophecy Of Malachi
INTRODUCTION: Malachi is a little-known prophet that ministered to the restored Jewish Nation about 400 years before Christ. His name means "My messenger." he was called by God to point out the sins of the people of God.
1. At this time in history the temple had been completed and sacrifices were being offered, but the priests were careless.
2. The original entusiasm that markedt he Jews' return was gone. They were discouraged. There was a drought and the crops were bad. They expected a golden age of prosperity but it had not come.
3. They were wondering: "Doesn't God care about us?" Malachi answers these doubts.
4. Malachi's style of writing is unique in the Old Testament. He makes a statement and then asks a question growing out of that statement.
5. As Malachi delivered the message of God, the people respond by arguing! They tried to justify themselves and defend their sinful ways.
6. The message of God condemns their sins SEVEN times and SEVEN times the people respon "Wherein...?" This idicates that they did not think they were as bad as God said they were!
7. It is a serious and dangerous thing for people to argue with God and try to defend their sinful ways!

They talked about how "HOLY" they were
But their lifestyles contradicted it
God says: "WALK LIKE ME."

They went their own way
Thinking they could get by without God
See Proverbs 3:5-6

They didn't think God was worth them
God shut off the rain and spoiled the crops
