Buying From A Responsible Breeder |
![]() |
Learn about the breed before you look to buy one. Read the breed standard, find out about grooming requrements, typical temperments, health problems that are common. Irresponsible breeders hate educated buyers!!!! Attend shows, talk to people who own the breed you want. Read, educate yourself, see and play with a adult of the breed. Please be patient. You may have to wait a few months maybe, longer to find the right dog and breeder. This is a short time compared to the time the dog will live with you. Reputable Breeders DO Know and follow the Code of Ethics of their Breed Club. Breed in order to improve the breed, producing the best quality they can, and usally inted to keep at least one from the litter. Ask as many questions of you as you do them. Breed good quality dogs, that are closey to the breed standard as possible, free of serious health and temperment problems. Tell you if they think you'll be better off with another breed, or no dog for all if that's the case. Provide referrals to other reputable breeders, if nothing is available. Use a written contract an guarantee, or oral one in terms that you can live with. Provide a registration slip, up to date shot record with every pup they sell. If for any reason at any time provide you can no longer keep the dog they will take it back. (any reputable breeder will glady do this insted of seeing they're dog in a rescue, pound or a uneducated home) Openly discuss any breed problems including temperment, con's of the breed, health problems etc. Breed they're bitches once every other heat, or more. No reputable breeder will ever breed back to back heats. Normally breed only one or two litters a year, max. Do not sell puppies for holiday gifts (such as Christmas, Valentines Day, Easter, Birthdays etc.) Not with out long time prior arangements. Have healthy, clean, happy, and humanely cared for dogs. Reputable Breeders DO NOT Breed simply to produce puppies to sell. Sell puppies with out papers. Sell puppies less than eight to ten weeks old. Sell puppies to people thay have not screened. Have litters of multiple breeds. Have a breeding stock that consist of a "mated pair". Breed a bitch on every season, or more than once a year. Appear eager to sell or get rid of a puppy. Do not sell with out a good contract. Do not breed a dog or bitch that has not had a health screening. If your having problems finding a reputable breeder in your area. Please E-mail me, I will try my best to find a reputable breeder in your area. Please Do Not buy from a pet store... This is supporting Puppy Mills. People do breed with out a heart, keeping dogs in unhealthy, unhumane conditions, just produce puppies for money. These people sell to pet stores. They care nothing about the animal. Breed them untill they die, just for a few extra bucks. I know it's hard when you walk in a pet store and see a cute puppy. You need to turn the other cheek and walk out. If you where to buy one, it would give Puppy Mills a reason to produce more. The way "I" deal with this situation is to just stay out of pet stores all together. We as breeders, and dog lovers, need to educated uneducated people about this. Hopefuly one day Puppy Mills will have to shut down because there is no market for they're puppies in pet stores. |
