Vatican diplomacy 13 August, 2002 America is still reacting to Sept 11. The principal argument seems to be "to war or not to war?" There are hawk/dove differences within the same Bush administration. The problem is not only Irak, but also whether the USA should continue to consider Saudi Arabia as its main ally in the Middle East region. Vatican diplomacy has been even more active than it normally is with regards to this possible war between Irak and the USA. The Patriarch of Jerusalem spoke yesterday ( 10 August) with the leader of Hamas.
