The late dark Middle Ages: how many time have you heard this phrase? Nowadays there is a re-evaluation of the
Middle Ages. It was disregarded by the Enlightenment culture, after the French Revolution. It was defined the obscure period.
Probably because the culture was theological and teleological. Now we understand that it was an important age,in which our roots are.
In the Italian culture, literature reached a very high level with Iacopone da Todi, Dante Alighieri, S Francesco of Assisi, Francesco Petrarca, Giovanni Boccaccio. Giotto was the first modern painter. Democracy flourished in the city-states. In Europe there were many hospitals created by different institution
like the italian Misericordie,or the Knights of Malta. All the the latin books were copied by the monks. Cathedrals were built.
States were founded. New Languages were born. In the Middle Ages culture man was a creator, he continued the creation of God.
