Is the end of satire?

23 March, 2001 Siena

Is it the end of satire?
Political satire on television aroused great controversies in Italy, during the elections.
Italy is the adoptive country of satire which was widely used in the old Roman Empire.
The Latin literature was influenced by historical events, but the authors were able to maintain their intellectual independence. And in the Italian regions there is still the biting irony of the ancient Romans.
Is it the end of satire?
We hope not, because we think that the Italian cultural tradition has the possibility to express itself in a free and ironic way, respectful, at the same time, of the person.
A little bit of irony is better than false conformity, this is a way to start a new indisputable era.
