TRAINING

At Fry-Line Kennels, we realize that each dog is an individual with different abilities and temperaments.  We pride ourselves in developing a custom training program for each individual retriever.  After discussing your goals with you and evaluating your retriever, we design a training program based on both your desires and the retriever's abilities.

Every dog matures and learns at a different speed, but from our experience, the following is a good general guideline as to training time:

Basic Obedience:  (4-6 Weeks)  Your dog will sit when told, heel at your side, come when called, and will be a pleasant addition to your household.

Basic Retriever Training (3-4 Months)  All of the above, plus your retriever will deliver birds to hand and release at your command.  He will do complex land and water singles, as well as short doubles.  He will sit by your side until sent to retrieve.  He will also be ready to pass AKC Junior Hunter tests and will be very useful in the duck blind or dove field.

Intermediate Retriever Training:  (5-7 Months)  At this level, your dog will be retrieving complex doubles and hunting triples.  He will be collar-conditioned, sitting on a whistle, and will be handling to blinds.  You will have a hunting companion that you and your buddies will be proud to take hunting.  He will also be ready to pass AKC senior tests and UKC seasoned tests.

Advanced Retriever Training Involves Master Hunter level work; an excellent hunting retriever.

You will receive a monthly evaluation (either by email or phone) describing your dog's progress, as well as his strengths and weaknesses.  We encourage owner participation as often as possible.

Depending on individual maturity levels, we generally take pups into training at age six months.  Please call to discuss your individual needs.
