With the help of the
NPSS and Bert Bowes wrestling teams, coach Luc Boucher
led clinics for a week to prepare students for the
tournament. The goal was to develop basic wrestling
skills, have fun and build good sportsmanship. Like
running, throwing, or jumping, wrestling is one of the
most natural of all sports. And like the others, it dates
to the earliest times. Wrestling was introduced into the
Olympic Games in 704 B.C. The same international rules
for freestyle wrestling were followed for this
tournament. 90 boys and girls from grade 4 to 7
participated in the annual wrestling event held at North
Peace Secondary School. The boys and girls were divided
in the different weight classes indicated below. Here is
a list of the individual results and the tabulation of
points that made Duncan Cran Elementary the school
champion for the fifth year in a row.

Thank you to all the wrestlers, parents and
volunteers who helped with the refereeing, weigh-in,
scorekeeping, timekeeping, organizing bout sheets, First
aid, 50/50 draw, clean-up, and everything else which
contributed to the success of this year's elementary
wrestling tournament.

school trophy which has been awarded to Duncan
Cran. The 2002 winner has taken the title for
five consecutive years. Congratulations to all
