YEAR 2001 - JULY

Reveille is inviting you to an open call to appear in a
music video for their first single, what you got,
Director Jacques Rey will be shooting the video Friday,
July 20th in the Boston-area. The location is still to be
determined, but will be announced on Wednesday July 18th
in the band news link on http://www.reveillerock.com and

-Cradle Of Filth have issued a statement slamming their
US label, Spitfire Records, for not releasing an “enhanced?version of the
group’s current album, Bitter
Suites To Succubi, and failing to inform the band of the
change in plans. According to the statement, “the USA version of the BSTS
CD should also have been enhanced like the Europe
version. The manager and the band were under the
impression that it was, and in fact it only came to light
that it was not with e-mails from [fans writing in]!
Spitfire [Records] knew that [the CD] was not going to be
enhanced weeks ago so we have no idea why they have not
changed their web site [to reflect the changes in plans].
They have now been asked to do so now.
-Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne will be honored
with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year.
-Coal Chamber will be finishing up the recordings for
their upcoming Dark Days opus in early August at Rumbo
Recorders Studio in Canoga Park, California with producer
Ross Hogarth. According to vocalist Dez Fafara,
"We're working in a very vibey place,"
referring to the studio where GUNS N?ROSES?Appetite For
Destruction, MOTLEY CRUE’s Girls, Girls, Girls and
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS?Core were recorded. About Hogarth,
Fafara said: “I've never worked with a
producer like Ross Hogarth...someone who knows exactly
what he wants, and gets it every time...and won't accept
anything less than 130%.
-Redwood City and San Francisco, California, July 12,
2001 -- METALLICA and Napster, Inc. today announced the
settlement of their legal dispute. The settlement will
enable the parties to work together to make Napster a
positive vehicle for artists and music enthusiasts alike.
"METALLICA has taken a courageous stand and a tough
and principled approach to the protection of its name and
creative output, and that of other artists. They brought
to our attention essential artists' rights issues which
we've addressed in our new technology. We respect what
they've done and regret any harm which this dispute may
have caused them," said Hank Barry, interim CEO of
Napster. "METALLICA is a band that continues to be
ground-breaking and on the cutting edge. In a career that
dates to 1981, METALLICA has been in the forefront of
creative, technological and marketing initiatives in the
music and video world. It's clear that METALLICA's
longevity and fan loyalty have been earned by looking
forward, not backward."
"We at Napster strongly believe that Napster, the
Internet and file-sharing will play an increasingly
important role in how fans discover, share and purchase
their music," Barry added. "We understand that
METALLICA and, indeed, all artists, must have a voice in
this evolution. We are delighted that we now have the
opportunity to work with METALLICA to develop a new
business model that will be responsive to the artistic
right to choose for which METALLICA so vigorously and
admirably fought."
Napster has implemented and will continue to refine
filtering technology for identifying and blocking access
to files that artists and other rights holders do not
want to allow users to share. Pursuant to the terms of
the settlement, this technology is to be consistent with
the District Court's preliminary injunction and the
statutory requirements of the Digital Millennium
Copyright Act. This technology, a fixture of the new
Napster model being developed, is available to all
artists and their labels.
"I think we've resolved this in a way that works for
fans, recording artists and songwriters alike," said
Lars Ulrich, co-founder of METALLICA. "Our beef
hasn't been with the concept of sharing music; everyone
knows that we've never objected to our fans trading tapes
of our live concert performances. The problem we had with
Napster was that they never asked us or other artists if
we wanted to participate in their business. We believe
that this settlement will create the kind of enhanced
protection for artists that we've been seeking from
Napster. We await Napster's implementation of a new model
which will allow artists to choose how their creative
efforts are distributed. It's good that they're going
legit."
"Even when we were at odds with METALLICA, we always
understood that they had the best interests of artists in
mind," Shawn Fanning, Founder of Napster, pointed
out. "METALLICA brought to the forefront an
important artists' rights issue. They have taken a lot of
flak for that but have persevered because of their belief
that what they're doing is essential to the preservation
of their art. Despite the litigation, METALLICA's
position has been a reflection of their high ideals and
their private dealings with Napster have always been
gracious."
Fanning continued, "It's time to end the court fight
and shake hands. We look forward to gaining METALLICA's
support and respect as we work to develop Napster into a
tool that can be responsive both to artists' needs to
communicate their art and the desires of music lovers
throughout the world. We're pleased that this chapter is
behind us."
METALLICA has agreed to allow the sharing of certain of
their material from time to time once an acceptable model
is in place that ensures payment to artists and
publishers for the use of their works.
-As their debut album, Sinner, screams up the Billboard
albums chart and its first single, "Bodies,"
continues on a path toward becoming hard rock's summer
anthem, Drowning Pool seem to have a lock on the title of
Ozzfest's breakout band.
Such high expectations, however, haven't made the Dallas
quartet forget what landed it a slot on the tour in the
first place.
"It's crazy. It's hard from my perspective to
explain [the position we're in] because I'm in it,"
singer Dave Williams said. "We're just four
jackasses from Texas who love to play music. We love
doing what we do for the audience. ... Breakout band? You
know, whatever. I'm not going to read too much into it.
It's great that people think that, but you can't focus on
that too much or you'll lose sight of what you have to
do, and that's go out there and do a good show and be who
you are.
"You have to take everything with a grain of
salt," he continued. "Celebrate and be proud,
but don't lose track of the big picture. Go do your show,
get to places you've never been and entertain your
audience. That's our whole driving force, the audience,
the fans."
-" Just to close all the fuckin bullshit rumors that
fly, Several weeks ago for about 10 days my ex-wife
Pamela and I were seeing each other very deeply. What
seemed to be deep turned out to be sour when she informed
me......oh wait, When she had Kid Rock call me and tell
me that they were dating!! Wow.......Can you say
shitty?....My once friend goes and fucks with my ex and
family!! Fuckin peice of shit!!......!@#$%^&* moron!!
Oh well.......Better him than me!!"

-When Godsmack's tour with Deftones kicks off Thursday in
Spokane, Washington, the band is hoping the jaunt is
blessed with a little "Bad Magick."
The Boston quartet has chosen the creatively spelled
track to be the third single off Awake (2000), according
to Godsmack's publicist. A video is in the works.
Fans who miss out on seeing Godsmack live during their
concert spell can catch a much smaller spectacle courtesy
of two home videos due in stores by the end of the year.
Though they stand untitled, one video compiles footage
from Godsmack's sold-out hometown performance at the
Worcester Centrum on March 2 as part of their Wake the
Fuck Up tour. The other video contains biographical info
on the band as well as interview segments about life
onstage and off.
-Here is SLAYER guitarist Kerry King’s comment on SLIPKNOT, as
taken from the current issue of the UK magazine Metal
Hammer: “SLIPKNOT fuckin?destroy me.
I listen to them and even I feel intimidated. I feel
like, ‘Fuck, these guys are really
pulling something out of the hat here.?They just came out
of nowhere and the album is so fuckin?powerful. Every
time I see them live it’s incredible. They’re a band I’m as obsessed with as the
bands when I was growing up. And, like us, they got heard
with no help from anyone
-ANATHEMA bassist Dave Pybus has left the band on the eve
of the release of the group’s much-anticipated new
studio album, A Fine Day to Exit, and is currently
traveling with CRADLE OF FILTH as a session musician for
the duration of their North American dates with NILE and
GOD FORBID. A Fine Day to Exit is scheduled for a
September 11 release through Music For Nations in Europe
and Koch Records in North America.
-SLAVES ON DOPE have completed seven new songs during the
pre-production sessions for the upcoming sophomore album
in Montreal and will be previewing the new material at
the three Canadian shows they have scheduled for the
coming weeks.

-Despite previous reports to the contrary, the
as-yet-untitled band founded by former Rage Against The
Machine members Tom Morello, Brad Wilk, and Tim
Commerford and ex-Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell will
not have its debut CD issued on November 6th. According
Allstar, a spokesperson for the band at Epic Records and
a representative at Q Prime, the management company for
the RATM portion of the band, have both confirmed that
the album is still not finished and has not yet been
scheduled for release. As of late May, the quartet had
completed writing over 20 tunes and are currently in the
studio recording them with producer Rick Rubin.
-Slipknot, Pantera's Phil Anselmo and Cypress Hill's Sen
Dog will appear on Biohazard's sixth studio album.
Uncivilization, due September 11, also features
collaborations with various members of Sepultura,
Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta, Agnostic Front's Roger Miret and
Type O Negative's Peter Steele.
Biohazard ?singer/guitarist Billy Graziadei,
singer/bassist Evan Seinfeld, guitarist Leo Curley and
drummer Danny Schuler ?produced most of the album on
their own in their Brooklyn, New York, studio, according
to management.
Miami producer Jive Jones, the man behind Mandy Moore's
sugary single "Candy," co-produced the album's
first single, "Last Man Standing," with
Biohazard. The track features Sen Dog and New York's DJ
Rizz.
Sen Dog last worked with the band on "How It
Is," from 1994's State of the World Address.
Uncivilization marks Biohazard's first release since
signing to Sanctuary Records, a metal renaissance label
whose roster includes Megadeth, Rollins Band, Corrosion
Of Conformity, Halford and Dust to Dust.
The 13-track album finds the band collaborating with
their many friends in the metal world. Slipknot appear on
"Domination," Phil Anselmo on
"H.F.F.K.," Peter Steele on "Cross the
Line," Jamey Jasta on "Domination" and
Roger Miret on "Unified."
Sepultura's Igor Cavalera appears on "Gone,"
while bandmates Andreas Kisser and Derrick Green add
guitars and vocals to "Trap."
Biohazard will promote Uncivilization with a mid-August
tour of the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada, before
heading to Europe in September for the Tattoo the Planet
Tour. A full North American outing is expected to
commence upon their return.
Meanwhile, fans can catch Seinfeld as recurring character
Jaz Hoyt on HBO's prison drama, "Oz."
Biohazard formed in 1988 and released several rap-metal
landmarks, including 1996's Mata Leao and two
collaborations with rappers Onyx, a remix of
"Slam" and the title song on the "Judgment
Night" soundtrack.
-They say that legends never truly die, and on August
15th, the world will get
another chance to bask in the glory of one such icon,
Long Island's own
Twisted Sister! For one special day, Dee Snider, Jay Jay
French, Mark
Mendoza, Eddie Ojeda and A.J. Pero will reunite to meet
with fans at Slipped
Disc Records in Valley Stream, Long Island, promoting the
August 14th release
of 'Twisted Forever', a tribute to Twisted Sister

-Powerman 5000 have tentativly set August 7th to release
their new album, "Anyone For Doomsday". The
group recently shot a video for "Bombshell",
with the directing team of the Brothers Strause ( Linkin
Park ). The video will feature 60 foot high robots and a
ton of special effects and should begin airing mid July.
PM5K have also begun planning their upcoming tour with
Machine Head, Saliva and Stereomud, called "Doomsday
In The USA" Tour, and they plan to kick it off on
September 11th.
-Drowning Pool are expected to miss a couple Ozzfest
dates starting with June 30th due to a family emergency.
No word yet as to when they will return to the tour.
-Silverchair have selected producer David Bottrill (i.e.
Tool, King Crimson) to produce their as-yet-untitled
studio album, which is tentatively scheduled to be
recorded in Australia beginning in mid-August and
released in early 2002 through Atlantic Records.
According to Silverchair mainman Daniel Johns, Bottrill
was chosen because "I was looking for someone who
wasn't scared of doing something different, which has
been harder than I thought. We also wanted someone who
didn't necessarily specialize in any specific type of
music ?just a real 'all-rounder'."
-Deftones frontman Chino Moreno may have partied a little
too hardy at Saturday's Wâldrock Festival in Bergum,
Holland. His obviously inebriated onstage behavior
prompted organizers to cut his band's set in half amidst
resounding jeers from a disappointed audience.
