Most of what you will see here (for now) are pictures and stories from or past trout camps around northern Michigan.
We started the couples getaway back in 1985? or so and it has become sort of a tradition ever since. It is sort of the first camping trip of the year for those of us who have cabin fever and it also allows those of us who like to fish (catch something or not) to wade a stretch of stream, boat a stretch of river or walk a stretch that we may never have seen before.
We have seen everything from deer to elk to bear to ducks and geese. Also otters and beaver and muskrat and just about every other critter you can imagine.
It also gives us a chance to spend some time with good friends and just relax next ot a warm fire while trying out someones latest recipe for jerky, some deep fried turkey, or sip some of the recipe (sometimes until your blind).
We started in tents some 15 or so years ago and moved into small campers and now to larger trailers, motorhomes and fifth wheels. Although the tents were fun, the RVs allow everyone the comfort of a warm dry place to sleep, although some cold nights have been known to burn up a battery too. We still like to camp in primative campgrounds around northern Michigan, places where you are bound to see some wildlife that perhaps you may have never seen in the wild.
We usually scout for an area to camp in in the weeks before season. On a stream or river where you may encounter an otter, a beaver, maybe a mink or a muskrat. Ducks of every kind and usually a goose or two. Some place to wade or to boat or maybe even canoe. But always to camp on the river hopefully near the rapids.
This year 2001 we will most likely head back to the "Bridge". The fishing is good, the company is great and we may even take a couple of extra days off in hopes of catching the almighty trout!!
Last year we went back to our roots, the pictures below.. At the falls we caught a few fish, ate very well, and met some new friends. We had the campground for the most part to ourselves and once we had built our shelter had some great times. We tied some flies, played some cards, drank a little, and evenwatched an episode of servivor in the out of doors. We had even brought along our torches to get the full effect. Another great year chasing the all mighty trout in northern Michigan..................GOD'S COUNTRY!
