Foxy Brown (1974) |
![]() |
Directed by Jack Hill. Starring Pam Grier , Antonio Fargas , Terry Carter , Katheryn Loder , Peter Brown , and Sid Haig. |
After a fair amount of success with Coffy , director Jack Hill , and the queen of blaxploitation , Pam Grier teamed up once again for Foxy Brown. The first scene shows Foxys brother Link ( Antonio Fargus - I'm Gonna Git You Sucka) almost getting the shit beaten out of him by a couple of loan sharks. |
That is until Foxy shows up. She runs the two guys down in her car , and drives her no-good drug dealin' brother back to her place where he'll be safe. Miss Brown also has her own problems. Her boyfriend is an |
undercover cop , who just took part in a huge drug bust. He's already been shot in the guts by the mob , and now he's just changed his identity and face through the wonders of plastic surgery. Fortunately for him , although his new name is Michael, he doesn't come out looking like Michael Jackson. Actually, as far as I could see he looked about the same. Foxy introduces her new ( faced ) boyfreind Michael to Link. |
Although Link is an intellectual pygmy , he soon puts two and two together , and lets the mob know Michaels real identity so that he can clear his debts with them. Katheryn Loder , the mob boss orders another hit on Michael . This time it's successful. This is when things start getting good. Foxy goes undercover as a high class hooker in Loders 'modelling' agency seeking revenge. The agency provides girls for influential people like judges, and politicians. Foxys first client is a judge who will be presiding over a mob related trial the next day. If she pleases him , he'll be very lenient on the defendants. |
Naturally this is the last thing Miss Brown wants to do.....instead she insults him , and embarrasses him in front of his freinds. The trial goes badly of course , with twenty year sentences handed out. As punishment , Loder sends Foxy to 'The Farm'. This is a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere which is used to process heroin , and break women for the slave trade. This is where things really kick up a few notches. Foxy escapes after brutally killing her tormentors with coathangers and gasoline , and heads back to the city to enlist the aid of a black militant group to wipe out Katheryn Loder and her associates. |
This is a pretty entertaining , and violent blaxploitation flick. It always manages to stay interesting , especially with the complete change of pace with the scenes at the farm. Probably my favorite scene was when the loansharks were about to beat up Link at a diner. A couple of cops show up for coffee and tacos , and the tension builds as Link desperately tries to buy some time by making conversation with them. He bugs them that much I was half expecting one of the cops to shove a plunger up his arse N.Y.P.D style. |
Link delivered most of the better lines in the movie. At one point when Foxy is berating him for dealing drugs , he says : "What am I supposed to do? I'm a black man.... I can't sing , I can't dance, and I'm too small to play football". Funny dialogue , action , violence , pimps, ho's , and even a castration. A whole bunch of things that make this fun . Also look for Sid Haig ( Galaxy of Terror, House of 1000 Corpses) as a pilot. |
