Summary About Fruits Basket 

This is about a young high-school girl, Honda, Tohru. Having lost her mother in a car accident, she has to live alone in a tent in the forest near her school. Never a quitter, she strives to honor her mother's memory and work hard to do the best she can with her life.
One day, she happens to cross a house in the woods, not far from her makeshift abode. The residents, Sohma Yuki and his cousin Shigure, aren't total strangers. Sohma is the most popular guy at Tohru's school! She starts to live with them and soon, she finds out about their secret. They can turn into animals! She must keep this secret safe but trouble seems to appear.

Characters

Tohru- 16 years old and is a housekeeper for the Sohma family

Yuki- popular at school, so popular that he has his own fan club, and he turns into a mouse

Kyo-short tempered and turns into a cat

Shigure- 27  years old, a writer, always kidding around, and turns into a dog

Momiji- gentle, playful, happy, and turns into a rabbit

Haru- has a split personality, Kyo and him are rivals, and turns into a cow

Kisa- shy and self- conscious and turns into a tiger

Hiro- pessimistic, sarcastic, opposite of Kisa, likes Kisa, and turns into a sheep

Kagura- violently to show her love for Kyo, she believe they are meant for each other, and turns into a boar

Ritsu- he feels he is not particularly bright, strong, or athletic, and he turns into a monkey

Hatori- can erase people's memory, and turns into a dragon (seahorse)

Ayame- loud, egotistical, over-dramatic, Yuki's older brother, and turns into a snake

Akito- leader of the Sohma family

Ansa or "Uo-chan"- best friends with Hana and Tohru

Saki or "Hana-chan"- friends with Uo and Tohru, protective of her friends, has a power that senses auras
