REVIEWS ARE IN ORDER, ORDERED BY THE DOCTOR! |
May 3rd, 2002 @ the Revolution Room in Bellingham, WA review by Grant Cross I'm listening to the Who right now and boy shucks do I wish I had seen the Who play on Friday. They would have played Pictures Of Lily and I would have gone crazy. Instead I went crazy when the Fountains did "sick at the zoo", when Garden Variety Tsar played his new trailer park number, when Walking On Tails imporved an incredible song about cheesey snacks, when Todbot played the eulogy and tribute to Napolean the dog, and when Robin Cutler played the one about the would-be road trip. It was a splendid show I will say. Bellingham is in America, not England and thanks Goodness for that! Plus the show raised $167 for a cool local nonprofit group. My favorite parts were the above mentioned and the incredible house music (house as in 'played in the house', not like crappy beat music) played between bands. it was cool to put on a "real" show. I loved the show, it was 5 of my alltime faorite bands of alltime forever! If only the Who had played too. And not the Who of today, the Who of the late-early 1960's. I want Keith Moon back and Roger Daltry out. But I don't need the Who and Bellingham agrees with me, what we need is honest-to-heaven rock and roll that you can smile at and cry about and not feel dumb. we need bands that we know and songs we can dig on. we need bands like the ones that played Friday nite. thanks everyone. |

May 3rd, 2002 The Revolution Room by Angela Kanevski When I think of the show last friday night I can not help thinking of eating banana splits cause the music was that SWEET! 1. The Fountians layed down the foundations (i.e. the bananas). Each one of the musicians, if I dare say that you guys are great, played great beats and rythms in tune to the groove of each other! WOW I thought while I listened. Your music got me into the mood of a concert going fan (yes I am a fan). 2. Walking on Tails came to the stage ready to blast the audience with wit, rock and roll (i.e. the ice cream). What flavor do you think it was. I think that this flavour of ice cream only comes once in a blue moon and will never be here again. Thanks for your unique presence and songs ( cheetos for all young boys who know who's boss). 3. The sweetest part of the night, Garden Variety Tsar, I said it once before and I will say it many of times over, I love to dance in the arms of my love to your melodic songs (i.e. the whipped cream). 4. Todbot (i.e. the nuts) gave me chills and a harsh teeth cracking reality. Thank you for sharing such personal emotions. 5. Robin Cutler (i.e. the cherries), what can I say, the night would not be complete with out a voice like the mountians, "we should be lovers." You inspire me to write music. You all inspire me to write music. I hope we can get banana splits again sometime soon. Your fan, Your friend, Your secret admirer, with love Angela Kanevski. |
before the end of fall quarter. a friday. Jess(i)e's house in Seattle by Grant Cross I have given up on reviews. if you weren't there, than why would you want to hear about it? and if you were, than why would you want to hear about it from someone else? But the birds flew! the Stellar J(ay)s and the Geese were the sparkling line-up at Jess(i)e's house for the big party and goodbye for someone going to London. the Geese were sloppy? maybe, but who noticed? only that lanky guy with the stupid. The Geese are fun to watch b/c they have a fun time playing. With lotsa their friends there, these 4 semi-attractive rockers blasted. What? Blasted! And then the Stellar J(ay)s. Oh my! they were phenominal. the Harmonies (even with only one vocal mic turned down as to ensure no feedback) were incredible. All these instruments, all this sound. Wow! They need to play more! (by "them" I mean both bands, here is hoping they fly together more often and everywhere). If you were there you already know. If you weren't, I guess you'll hope they play more too. |

October 11th or so @ the pedal project in Bellingham, Washington review by a friend we are talking Geese! that means "riled up" in Spanish. as the first "public" performance of the Geese I expected exactly what I got- a stomach full of gut and punch, a foot full of blood and a mouth full of grins, laughter, and cheers. the Geese are terrific. One witness proclaimed, 'they made me instantly happy". I concur. There music is energetic and fun and exciting. the Geese had the mechanic's lodge bumpin'. there were crazy eagle-looking people boogeying with ugly pedestrians, having a blast- present, past and future smashing me. What!? What did you just say?! Howdy boy howdy! The show included a couple mis-starts, and a dozen or so fantasms. I think that them boys had to go to the county hospital too, b/c sure enough, they played their hearts out. I liked it when they rolled, I loved it when they rocked. They even did a "reprise" of the first song. It was like "what?! did you just say you love life?! oh! well... check this rubber stamp, pow pow pow! what?!" My heart beat faster and if not for the frozen air, that there bicycle shoppe would've caught fire and melted into lava. I would have gotten in a titanium canoe and floated til my eyebrows singed off. WHAT!? 5 cheers to 5 champs! |
