The Exploded Sawmill
Fundy Northern Lomax Lumber Modules
This is a model of an actual sawmill at West River, New Brunswick that suffered a boiler explosion in 1919.  A friend supplied some photos of the prototype mill that were used to make this scratchbuilt model.
Men are busy cleaning up after the explosion.  Mill was made from stripwood, and styrene sheet was used to form the damaged stacks and boilers.
The exploded boiler can be seen in the lower middle, as a man looks at it.   Sadly, two men were killed in the actual prototype explosion.
This model was made as a separate diorama, and was honored with "Best in Show" at an NMRA NER Convention in 1990, and also at the Maritime Federation of Model Railroaders Annual Convention in 1989.

The Narrow Gauge & Shortline Gazette featured an article on this model in their Nov/Dec 1990 issue.

It was also featured as "Model of the Month" in the June 1995 Model Railroader.
