We own a large late 1940s house that was converted long ago to function as two
totally independent units. The unit up for rental is totally isolated from the
other one and functions exactly the same as a conventional unit having it's
own access, bathroom and kitchen as well as a separate phone line and power/gas
meters.
The only common wall between the two units is the rental unit's lounge room and our storage room (which
is rarely used - and yes we live in the other unit!).
