Turkey Tips |
#1 Do not use a course shot (No. 2 or B's) hoping to bag a turkey with a body shot, it does not work due to the protection that the feathers provide. Use a fine shot such as N0. 4, 5 or 6 and aim for the head and neck. A neck and head shot has a better chance to severe the spinal cord and/or penetrate the brain. #2 Use a shotgun with full choke for maximum range and avoid shots further than 30 yards. #3 In the spring get into the woods well before daylight. Try to call a gobbler of the roost however this might be dificult since they have been with hens all night. Gobblers are easier to call mid-morning when available hens have been bred and the gobblers are roaming for more hens. #4 Roost areas and waterholes (with roosting areas close by) are good places in the afternoon. |
