"The Thomas Staples Family in Canada, The United States of America & Elsewhere", was compiled by Thomas Christopher Staples and published June 1, 1966. There was an earlier edition published in the 1950s. It is the genealogy of Thomas Staples, (1748-1825) who arrived in Cavan Township, Ontario, Canada from County Wexford, Ireland. I don't know where the book would be available but you might find it in your local library where it could be in their collection or possibly available through inter-library loan.
*************************************************************

The Staples Family History Assn. published newsletters for a period of ten years starting in 1977. The Jan 1984 issue features Thomas Staples who came from Gorey, (County Wexford, 50 mi. S. of Dublin) Ireland to Cavan Twp, Ontario, in 1823. He emigrated to Canada to join his sons and other members of his family who had sailed during the previous ten years.
Thomas(1748/5-8-1825) married Jane Bell (1757/5-1-1823) in 1775; he 27, she 18.1
They had ten children: John(1771-1849), Thomas(1777-1871), Ann(Nancy)(?-1872), Samuel(1780-1874), Mary(1784-1883), Elizabeth(c1786-?), Sarah(?-1876), Richard(c1790-?), James(c1795-1867) and Jane(c1798-1853).
This issue contains a generation chart to the third generation, which is all there was room for, since the family was so prolific! (78 grandchildren, 53 Staples surname, 215 Staples gg children.) It also contains an article about the difficulties that led to immigration and their beginnings in Canada.
Jane Bell became ill on the crossing from Ireland to Canada and is believed to have died shortly before the ship reached land, and was buried ashore. Elizabeth was the only one who remained in Ireland.
With so many descendants, his branch is the third largest in America, after Peter of Kittery, ME and John and Jeffery of MA.
Nothing definite seems to be known about the life of Thomas Staples in Ireland pre-1800 or about his ancestors.
- Fred Staples

1These numbers on Jane Bell are questionable, some sources have her 56 at death, (b. 1767). If James (1795) was her first child she was likely married to Thomas sometime between 1792-94, age 25-27. -(gw)
