STEP 6: top stitching and casings Your next step is to encase the elastic. To do this you will need to turn your diaper to the right side and feel where the elastic is attached inside. Now, make sure that the elastic is not twisted and is laying flat. stitch through the elastic and make a curve around and follow the edge of the diaper about 1/2 inch in. Make sure to NOT stitch over the elastic. Try making one without casings as shown below. I like to use Lastin clear elastic, it will not wick any moisture at all. You can buy it at www.diaperfabric.com
STEP 7: finishing up Now you are ready to add your final touches. If you make an aplix diaper, add your hook side to the ends of the wings. You might want to add fold over laundry tabs too. If you made a snap one, add you top snaps. Line up your top over where the snaps should go and mark in pencil.
Now you will have a great fitting pocket diaper! Good Job! Now send me some pictures of you work and I will add them to the page. I will be adding color photos of the instructions soon to make the instructions easier for everyone to follow.
This one is made without leg casings and with no front elastic. I really like the look of this better than the old style!
For the back casing, intead of leaving the 1 inch of PUL at the top, I added a piece of fleece, that way, that softness is the only thing touching babys back.
This is a picture out the inner of the diaper. The edges are serged and the elastic has been sewn to the edge along the legs. I know you cant see the elasic, that is because I used Lastin. It is a clear elastic that has no absorbant properties, this stff is great! It also lasts forever.
this is the serged edge around the leg opening. I know you can't see it, but there is 1/4 inche lastin sewn to the edge. If you look closely you can see the 3 step zig zag stitch, also called a lingery stitch.
this is the leg elastic when it is not stretched. I wish you could see more closely the elasatic and the stitching. But since the elastic is clear it's hard to see.
This is the elastic sewn on the leg seam and stretched tight.
