The potter's wheel is probably on of the first machines ever invented.

The flat silver disk, wheelhead, on top rotates to allow the potter to form the clay. Most of the time the potter will place a baton on top of the wheel head for easy removal of the throw pot. The potter is able to control the speed of the wheelhead by the foot petal.
