At a message board I recently visited as part of my 'Daredevil' excitement, I noted a thread entitled 'Ferral is an ass.' Well, the first obvious problem with that: you spelled his name wrong, you fucktard. And what did some of these people say about Colin? He's rude; he swears too much; he drinks too much; he smokes; he's a one hit wonder. Having seen him in 'The Recruit' and 'Daredevil,' I have become a fan of Colin Farrell, and as such, I have to say that these remarks are either way off base, or they are irrelevant.
He's rude. Why? Because he curses? Because he drinks? Because he smokes? I've seen a few interviews with him, and I think the guy is awesome. He doesn't come off as rude in my eyes. He comes off as just being himself, not presenting some typecast Hollywood image. I like that. It's fresh and different, and a lot more stars should try it. I guess the most difficult role for them is playing themselves.
He swears. A lot. So fucking what? Who doesn't swear? This doesn't make him an ass. Just because his interviews are bleeped out every other word, it doesn't make him an ass. His high level of proficiency in using certain 4 letter words is indicative of one thing: the guy is (drum roll please) HUMAN! Yes, it's true. Celebrities are indeed human (in most cases, anyway. I still have my doubts about the likes of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, but that's a rant for a different time, perhaps).
He drinks two beers a day at lunch, from what I've heard. What an alcoholic jerk he is! Yeah, or not. Maybe I'm wrong, but in my opinion, two beers does not an alcoholic make. I personally wouldn't drink two beers a day (I'm still underage, and I dont like beer anyway.) but that doesn't qualify him as an ass.
Same goes for his smoking. I personally believe it's disgusting, but it's not illegal for a man over 18, is it? Lots of people do it (though it's beyond me why) and plenty of other celebs smoke. So why call Colin on it? Just because it's something else to 'prove' what an ass he is?
In conclusion, I just want to say that people need to look a little deeper, especially when talking about celebrities. You can't really expect them to continue acting when they are doing interviews. They're supposed to be themselves. Colin Farrell is one of the few who truly seems to realize this. So he's crass, so he's jittery. So what? He's being himself, and that's all you can expect him to be. Get over it already.
