ENTERTAINMENT DO-RIGHT (TM) | ||||||||||||
"How and why did I get involved with actors and network TV?" That's a question I have asked myself many times. I certainly haven't made any money in the process. It has been interesting, though, and there have been some positive results. Early on, I realized that most of those involved with commercial TV were–and still are–inclined to regard me as a hopeless dork, a goody two-shoes. My own self-conception is different and I have significant misgivings about some of my past decisions and actions. I haven’t always behaved in the way that, when looking back, I might like to remember. But here let's stick with perception of me by others. I call this article “Entertainment Do-Right,” after the popular show, Entertainment Tonight (ET). I might also have called it “The Real Outsider,” after another popular show, The Insider. But let's stick with "Entertainment Do-Right." Like most people I watch such shows sometimes, even though they aren’t big on philosophy or social relevance; and also, while watching, I sometimes have the feeling that I’m being buried alive in kitty litter. Here we tell the story of another show, WKRP in Cincinnati. We tell the story of how WKRP got started. Our presentation is the sort of material that might, in fact, be featured on Entertainment Tonight. However, there are certain conflicts of interests that will be discussed later. And, actually, Entertainment Tonight has already presented a story on our declared main subject. That was on ET circa 2001. But as someone who was actually involved in the genesis of WKRP, I can say with absolute certainty that the Entertainment Tonight account was, in some respects, far short of the truth. I’ve made this known before in limited fashion, and the Internet has now given me an opportunity to publish more widely and to give more details. CONTINUE |
