Look who we met when we headed out diving!

I saw about ten as I dived into the water with snorkel.

They are Bottle-nosed Dolphins (Bando Iruka Tursiops truncatus).

We encountered this pod of dolphins between Port Lloyd and Nishi-no-shima.

Our first dive was at Nagasaki Washington (between the two beaches of those names) to the north of Chichijima in the Ani-jima Straits. A half dozen or so of these Christmas Tree Worms (Ibara Kanzashi Spirobranchus giganteus) were inhabiting this coral head.

This Butterflyfish (Yuzen Chaetodon daedelma) is not the most colorful fish in Ogasawara, but it is the most famous. They only live in Hachijo-jima and Ogasawara.

We found this Speckled Stingray (Madara Ei Taeniura meyeni) behind a large stone. Everybody scrambles to get a photograph.

But he jetted away before most people could get a shot.

This coral head had three different colonies of hard coral living together.

Brain Coral (Subomi Kikumeishi Favia Favus)

Sunburst Coral (Azami Sango Galaxea fascicularis).

Anchor Coral (Nagare Hana Sango Euphyllia ancora)

And as you can see these coral heads are about the size of a Volkswagen!

A Yellow Tang (Kiiro Hagi Zebrasoma flavescens) scouts out this rock nibbling at algae.

Our first dive comes to an end. My dive buddy Mickey practices his acsent position.

At lunch, we went snorkeling at Tsuri Hama in 5 to 10 meters of clear water. I saw this Schlegel's Parrotfish (Obi Budai Scarus schlegeli) there.

Cauliflower Coral (Ibohada Hana Yasai Sango Pocillopora verrucosa)
