Our second dive was at Man Saku no Hama on the Ani-jima side of the Strait. These creatures far off in the distance are Spotted Garden Eels (Chin Anago Heteroconger hassi). They live like this with their tails in the sand.

An Oriental Helmut Gurnard (Semi Houbou Dactyloptena orientalis).

This Orbicular Batfish (Tsubame Uo Platax teira) was receiving a cleaning.

The Cleaner Wrasse (Labroides bicolor Somewake Bera).

The DM said this was a Henke Kurage Lampea pancerina, although I didn't see any legs on it. It was definitely some type of Comb Jelly (Phylum Ctenophora).

This yellow fish is called Sasayo on the island, but the standard Japanese name Minami Isuzumi. It is a kind of Drummer (Kyphosus sp.) but it appears the species has not been settled. The fish is prepared as the dish "piimaka" on Chichijima.

Although this long critter has the confusing name of "sea snake" in Japanese, it is a fish, a Spotted Snake Eel (Umi Hebi Myrichthys maculosus). . .

. . . as you can see by the tiny fins on either side of his neck behind his gills.

You could hear this Parrotfish (Nan'you Budai Scarus gibbus) as it chomped off bits of the corals.
