A leading pioneer in the study of Chemical Sensitivity was Theron Randolph, M.D. Dr. Randolph characterized chemical sensitivity as an allergic disorder that did not always affect the skin. William Rea, M.D., who coined the term "Multiple Chemical Sensitivity," has developed unique laboratory blood tests of immune complement to document chemical sensitivity--and offers SPECT brain scans and Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Batteries at his Dallas clinic, to differentiate issues of toxic encephalopathy and neurotoxicity that accompany chemical sensitivity. As many as 16 percent of the general population, and 30 per cent of Native Americans, suffer mild MCS. MCS is often called "sick building syndrome."
