Shandra enjoys writing poetry and songs, and is also learning to write plays and screenplays. Her poetry was first published in the first-ever Native Women in the Arts anthology, entitled "in a vast dreaming." Native Women in the Arts has gone on to publish several more anthologies and books. Shandra has also done poetry readings at various cultural events in Toronto, including: * North Meets South Festival * "Native Women in the Arts" hosted by the Toronto Board of Education * Book launch for Chrystos: "Fireweed" hosted by Native Women in the Arts Shandra was a writer for Sankofa News, a multi-cultural magazine. She wrote articles about race relations and local Native issues. In 2000-2001, Shandra wrote, directed and produced several short experimental films, including COLLISION, which was nominated for awards for Best Script, Best Graphics and Best Short Film in the COST 211-212 Film Festival, 2001.
