I worked on the BEQ 11 ( I think it was 11 ) project, and a few other minor jobs. I think you might remember Julio Beatrice, or Bil Penny, jeez....I haven't thought about 40 for some time. I retired in 1998 in Gulfport with 74, the last Battalion.... But after 2 years I miss it some. I am a building inspector for the city of McKinney, Texas, it's not a bad job, and I pretty much stay away from hammers these days...lol...cept the ones thrown at me by pissed off builders...but hey, build it right the fi st time I tell them! Anyhow, good site, good stuff. Glad to see other bees keeping in touch. Take care, write back if you get the time Seabeerick

All the things that I admire about him I am learning are Seabee instilled. He's an incredible man and I am very lucky to have my Seabee.

Gary, It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the death of Cdr. Henry Rumbarger, CEC, USNR (ret.).The Commander was assigned to 40 when the Battalion was commissioned at Camp Endicott in Davisville in Oct. of 1942.He was made XO under Cdr Irving Rass ussen ,CO. After the Battalion's first deployment he was nammed the CO and took our battalion back for the second combatt tour . This encluded Hawaii, Eniwetauk , Saipan, And the invasion of Okinawa in April of 1945. He remained CO until the 40th NCB was ecommissioned . In 1965 Cdr. Rumbarger was called upon to take part in the re-commissioning of the Battalion at Davisville and presented the Battalion Colors to the newly selected CO, Cdr. Ben Seravia. He was present at the re-birth of the Battalion as NM B40. He was , from the beginning of NMCB ORG. a strong supporter of our Organization and gave encouragement to Ed Holston when Ed formed the present NMCB 40 ORG. Commander Rumbarger was with us this past April at our Atlantic City Reunion and we all are g eatful that he did "make" this last one. The Skipper died in a hospital at 0400Hrs. 14 October 1999 after a week long battle failed to restore his health. He will always be remembered by those of us who served in his "Fighting Forty" SEABEES and will alwa s know how much he loved NMCB40 and how proud he was of all Forty SEABEES who have served and are serving in Forty today. WE shall miss him, Clarence Hoover
