BOJA'S WEYR

A small, sightly pudgy girl greets you as you enter her weyr. She had her long black hair tied into a runner's tail. In her hands was the remenants of a potted plant. She saw you looking at the dead plant. "Oh, this," she hid the pot behind her back. "Just needs a little tending" she said, slightly ashamed. Attempting to put aside both the plant itself and the subject, she introduced herself. "I'm Boja by the way, and I recently impressed at Sapphire Weyr!" she said excitedly. "Do please come in and have a seat."

The first thing you notice in the weyr was the smallish sleeping green dragon next to her bed, using the bed as a pillow. The stone dragon couch was practically abandoned. "Isn't she just lovely! Her name is Dremith! Ever since she was little she liked sleeping on my bed, but of course she's too big for it now!" Boja said proudly.

Elsewhere in the weyr, in addition to the plant in Boja's hand, you noticed several other similarly doomed plants. You politely looked away. Boja stared at you with piercing grey eyes for a moment. "You are wondering about the plants aren't you? Well, maybe I didn't give them enough water," her eyes wandered to the floor. You looked at her for further explanation and she continued.

"I am the only daughter to a family of Farmcrafters. My father was looking for my older brothers to carry on the tradition, but they would have none of it! Daddy was so saddened. All my big oafy brothers wanted to do was go and squander their marks in the glamourous large holds, particularly Bitra," she wrinkled her small face up in a grimace. "Last I heard they were having to work in the kitchens! Anyway, to spare my father disappointment, I entered into the Farmcraft. Funny, but at the time he didn't seem so ecstatic about it - but cheered on my filial loyalty anyway. He seemed to know something I didn't realize at the time," she said, briefly glancing at the deathly plants.

She paused in her monologue to allow you to take a seat in a comfortable chair and to offer you a cool beverage, then she moved on. "So I tried my hand at turning the soil and tending these green sprigs, but I wasn't so successful. My mentor was a tough Journeywoman by the name of Tulla and boy, did she ever try! I realized after a year that I just wasn't cut out for the craft, but didn't really know what else to do besides the farmcraft. I thought about the Bakercraft - I am not so terrible a cook - but I didn't relish the thought of doing it the rest of my life, staying inside the kitchen. Farmercraft-types are out-doorsy you know. I was kind of stuck!" Boja exclaimed.

Her tone seemed to turn a little upbeat. "Then, one day while out in the field, my mentor and I were searched just like that! I never even considered dragonriding! Suffice it to say I was happy to find an honorable way out of the Farmcraft! My Daddy was proud of me and wished me the best on the sands, and to top all of that off, my eldest brother returned home, ready and willing to accept the Farmer's yoke, after being beaten to many times by the Bitrans at poker and seeing the err of his ways." She paused for a moment. "My other two wherry-brained brothers will come around, though I have serious doubts for the youngest," she mentioned thoughtfully.

You sipped the last drop of your beverage from the cup and thanked her kindly for the refreshment. She relieved you of the cup and set it aside. "So what brings you here anyway? Surely not to hear my uneventful tale!" You nooded and replied that you had, that you were just visiting the weyr. "Well, I doubt you will remember my history very long, in light of some of the other around here!" she said cheerfully. " I daresay that I will like it here very much! I'm glad I impressed cute Dremith," she said cheerfully.

You look down at your empty hands and feel ready to leave. She realized your intent and stood to see you out. "Oh do please stop back by!" You wish her luck and wave good-bye.
