The Regency. For a thousand cycles it has stood against the forces of darkness, a last bastion of civilization against the beastmen of the lands beyond its borders. We have stood the test of time, fighting for the purity of humanity, and for the prosperity of our people. Yet there are some who do not believe in our struggle, handed down to us by the Gods, and our ancestors. Some whose treacherous leanings side with those same beastmen who would take what we have fought for and poison it with self-hatred; with a so-called fraternity offered with sinister smiles. Sons and daughters of the Regency, the beastmen lie to you, and would destroy us all at a whim, just as their traitor friends within our provinces killed the Blessed Regis Sidhu.

So it is now, in these troubled times, that we must be prepared to leave our loved ones behind to fight again. For it is the true calling of all citizens of the Regency to rid this world of these evil beastmen; elves, dillain, cians, caprins, annuks, renns, hyvid, and most of all we must be vigilant of the human traitors within our own lands. Those who would sell your future, our future, for a single coin.

The safety of mankind is it at stake. The hour of war is nigh. The future of the world of men is in your hands. Go with the blessings of the Gods, fight with the blessing of your new Regis, die with honor, knowing that your place at the table in the halls of Nirodha has been set for you. Galthea Dark Chronicles is a fantasy role-playing game set in an empire on the brink of war. For over a thousand cycles, most of Galthea has been ruled by a tyrannical human empire known as the Regency, from it's central city of Tian in the province of Aradwys. Stealing power from another empire, it grew to encompass some 70% of Galthea, marching over Locanda & Avena, the two continents of Galthea, feeding its citizens on a diet of fear and oppression, in a constant state of war against the other races of Galthea, whom they consider "beastmen", and "abominations". Through the 217 cycles of his reign, the last Regis, Sidhu Eternal, strove to civilize Galthea's two continents by a two-fold tactic of diplomacy and subjugation, at one point wiping clean the dirty slate of the old Regency by replacing its feudal system of hereditary nobility, with a (mostly) elected bureaucracy, codifying society into strict classes, dividing the common poor and the wealthy nobles like never before.

Now, 2 years after Regis Sidhu was assassinated by Canderin sympathizers, the Regency seems less stable. Some see the new Regis as weak, as a puppet of the dark magical brotherhood known as the Eldritch, and are turning to the very same "beastmen" they have fought for centuries for aid. One of the outer provinces has even declared open war against the new Regis, calling to arms all who wish to help. Talk is rife across the provinces that others may follow suit, while others are watching the chaos unfold, waiting for the perfect opportunity to seize power for themselves.

As a player, your character may start with humble beginnings, yet will soon become involved in the scheming and battles the impending war brings as realms vie for power and independence. Whose side will you be on? Will you offer your services to the Regis? Will you become a Fyrding fighting for wealth and fame? Will you join with one of the independent realms, making a stand against the oncoming might of the unyielding Regency Legions? Do you lay your support with the Dracolites and the Eldritch, or to the Zanadikan Old Ways? Or do you strive to stay neutral while the future of the world is played out in front of you?
