The Greatest Video Games - Revisited [Arch Rivals]
Reggie is far superior

Get that friggin' ref off the screen!

Arch Rivals is NBA Jam for the NES. Only not fun. Its 2-on-2 hardcore no fouls basketball at its averagest. There are different players that one can choose which have various strengths and weaknesses. One cool thing is that stats are kept for the players. Some interesting innovations include: punching, the backboard breaking... and thats about it. This game was decent when it came out, and it remained better than most NES games which came long after it.

Despite the decent gameplay and so forth, there is one thing that absolutely kills this stupid game. After every basket, there is a stupid cinema of a little referee with coke-bottle glasses and a caption that says 'two points'. There are usually alot of baskets scored in a game of basketball. To see this stupid cinema after every one makes you want to rip out your eyes. It absolutely kills the fun of the game.

Arch Rivals
Graphics: 3
Better than Atari, worse than Sega.
Playability: 7
Its a simple game, two buttons. Shoot, pass, jump, punch. Not much to master or screw up.
Fun Factor: 3
I rate this game on the same fun level as I did Bulls vs. Blazers. Both games had potential but didn't really pan out for completely different reasons. Bulls vs. Blazers gameplay was far too slow and outside shots impossible to make, Arch Rivals had solid gameplay but that absolutely retarded cut screen just friggin' ruined it. Unreal. So in conclusion, this game probably gave Midway the idea for NBA Jam, but it is hard to play an entire game because of the horrid delays of the inbetween basket cinemas.
