The Greatest Video Games - Revisited [Tecmo NBA Basketball] | |

Stooopid charging fouls! ![]() Tecmo NBA Basketball could be described as Tecmo Super Bowl's little brother. That or the Fredo to your Michael Corleone. Metaphors aside, Tecmo NBA Basketball was a great game, but never quite lived up to its football counterpart. Tecmo NBA Basketball came out for the 1991-1992 season, and included 12-player teams, an All-Star Game, and season-long statistic keeping capabilities. All teams from 1991 are included, that means no Grizzlies or Raptors to stink up the place.
The great thing this game is that it came out when many of the all time greats were still playing. Jordan, Bird, Ewing, even Moses Malone grace the screen. The best teams that were good are the Bulls and Warriors, but my favorite team to use is the lowly Bucks, who play well beyond their ability. All starters can stroke 3's repeatedly, even the center, Frank "Brick House" Brickowski. However, MJ masters this game, he is the best combination of speed, shooting ability, jumping, steals, and pretty much anything one can think of.
Tecmo NBA Basketball provides the first great game for basketball fans, as Bases Loaded did for baseball, Blades of Steel did for hockey, and of course Tecmo Super Bowl did for football. Some may say Hoops is the best basketball game ever. Trust me, the graphics are way worse and the gameplay is quite limited in comparison. Plus, Jordan and Bird can take on Jammer and Mr. Doc any day. |
