David Guillot #460
The latest information will be posted as it comes in!

The latest report is that the swelling in David's brain continues to slowly subside.  The family says that they will not be able to tell the extent of the trauma to the brain until the swelling is gone.  David has been fighting an infection in his spinal fluid since last week and continues to have a high fever.  The doctor's began a new treatment with anitbiotics last night that they hope will take care of the infection.
The doctors did tell his parents that he appears to be out of the woods, survival-wise, however, they could not five any prognosis on what condition or improvement to expect.  The neurologist explained that David's injury is the worst head trauma that they have ever seen.  The physical therapist working with David did report yesterday that he was responding to her commands to squeeze her hand, so this has cheered up the family.  Another CAT scan is scheduled for this morning, so hopefully, the news will improve.
David has had many visitors and the family does appreciate it.  More to come when it is available.

David Guillot took a bad fall to the head.  He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.  The injury caused severe brain swelling and David has been fighting for his life.  Our love and prayers are with David and all of his family.

Surgery was done on 24 Aug 01 and a Shunt was put into Dave to allow drainage of the brain.  The Shunt is working well according to his family.  Plans are to move David to the Sheppards Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta on Monday, 3 Sep 01.  David currently has movement in his right arm and leg and can open his left eye, however, he does not respond to commands.  The doctors feel that David can hear but are not totally sure.  It appears David may be paralyzed on his left side.  David has a long way to go for recovery.  The next 30-45 days in rehab are critical.  After that time the doctors will know more.

David was moved from the ICU unit at North Fultan Hosp. to "The Shepherd Center earlier this week.  They found that he had a blood clot in his brain and had to do surgery again.  He is still recooperating from the surgery and has yet to come out of his coma since the accident.  The doctors plan on starting him on stimulants to try and bring him out of the coma.  The family hopes that this will bring him out of the coma, so he may begin his rehabilitation.  If he does not improve to the point that he can benefit from the rehab, they may have to discharge him.

Sherrie is working some-mainly from the hospital.  Max is still visiting his Dad, but it sounds like  he is having a hard time.

23 Dec 01

David had an infection in his brain and was sent back to N. Fulton Hospital last week.  He is doing much better and should be back in the nursing home shortly

10 Dec 01

There has been no real change to David's condition.  He did have a seizure which is expected in his condition.  News will be posted as soon as it becomes available.

It appears now that David may not come out of his coma.  We are working on getting a Trust Fund established to assist his family.

David has been moved to a nursing home as a temporary location.  It has become difficult for his family to find a suitable location for David's long term care.  David's neurological condition is still almost the same.  While he does have some response with his left eye, he does not appear to be responsive to any outside stimulus.  He has responded to outside communication in the past, however, it is not consistent and David is unable to start his rehabilitation process.

As you can imagine, you are needed more than ever.  The countdown for volunteers is on.  We need people who are willing to call the Alumni to let them know what is going on with David and the Alumni Association.   We are also asking for your financial support.  I can only imagine what my family could be feeling if I were put into this situatation.  Please
E-mail me if you would like to volunteer your time.  Thank you all and God Bless!

David's situation has not changed.  We are still praying that somehow David will be able to recover.  The likelyhood of this happening decreases everyday.  NOW is the time to show your support for David and his family.  We are hoping that the word will get out and more financial support will be given by YOU--THE ALUMNI.  Every little bit helps.  What we give today will grow to at least provide a college for David's son to attend or assist his wife with any medical expenses that may come up.  With your help we can pull together and provide some type of assistance for a fellow brother in need.  Every little bit helps  $25, $50 or even $100 will do wonders.  For those that have provided assistance, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.  For those that have yet to help, please find it in your heart to assist us in our endevour.  Our special thanks to David's good friend, Mike Cox, for planning the
Golf Fund Raiser for David.  We thank you.

Thank you and God Bless!

Well it has been over a year now and we have some good news.   According to David's Step Mom, David is showing some improvement in communication.  David has spoken slightly.  He has stated, "Good Morning" when spoken to and when told to say something like Rusty, he will respond, "Rusty".  He has yet to carry on a conversation, however, this is an improvement.  We have always been told it is a very slow recovery, so please keep David in your thoughts and prayers.  Also, we are far below where we had hoped to be in building a donation fund for David.  If you have not yet
donated, please do.  Every little bit helps and will grow in the years to come for David's son's College Fund.  Thanks and God Bless.

David's recovery process is slow.  David's wife and parents have decided to have all money donated put into a college trust for David's son.  We have a great start, but a long way to go.  Thanks again to Tim Cox, David's friend on his successful golf fund raiser.  For more information on how you can help, just

Great news on David.  Without getting into too many details, David has had Surgery that appears to be successful.  After surgery he was given stimulants and now he is talking.   Rusty Taylor spoke to him and he sounded perfectly normal.  Chris Lolley also spoke to him and he said hello.  His wife, Sherry, stated that his memory is sketchy, but he has made great progress.  It is still a long road to go, but it looks like he just may pull out of it and have somewhat of a normal life again.  As more information comes in, we will provide it.  Our prayers are with you David.  Just a reminder, we are still taking donations for the "Max Guillot Scholarship Fund" for David's son.  Once you donate, your name will be put on the web page until Max completes school, so
click here to see how you can help out.  Thanks again to all those that continue to support this worthy cause.

David has returned to the Nursing Home and has returned to his condition prior to surgery.  He is continuing therapy and we will continue to pray for some type of recovery.  Sept 6, 03 is the 2nd Annual Fund Raising Scholarship Golf Tournament for David's son "Max" Prattville, AL.  We ask that all that can support this great event.  It will be fun and allow you to directly contribute to the future of Max Guillot.
