Stringin' Along with the Guitar Club

The guitar club at Thomas Edison High School is giving students the opportunity to explore their musical interest. The club gathers every Friday at 2:15 p.m., and is directed by Mr. Venezia and Mr. Adomaitis. The guitar club caters to the musical curiosity of the students.

The variety of students that attend the club ranges from freshmen to seniors. The club consists of two sections, the acoustic section and the heavy metal/freestyle section. Mr. Venezia is the moderator of the acoustic section and Mr. Adomaitis is the moderator of the heavy metal/freestyle section. Each area meets in different rooms due to musical diversity.

Students are involved in the guitar club to learn and entertain themselves. “The guitar club is important because it brings kids together and gives them something to do,” says Mr. Venezia. There are about twenty students in the club. The students that participate in the club teach each other how to play or just show off their “skills.” Josh a sophomore, has been a part of the guitar club since his freshmen year. Josh says, “the guitar club is very fun and interesting and gives me something to do.” Students bring their own instruments or the school supplies the instruments. According to Mr. Adomaitis, more instruments are needed because carrying the guitars back and forth inconvenience the students. A fund-raiser was attempted to get money for a school set of guitars, but was unsuccessful.

The guitar club was initiated five years ago by former principal Lawrence Block. It originally consisted of about ten students and was limited to acoustics. Students who want to join should contact Mr. Adomaitis or Mr. Venezia.
