Wal-Mart, and perhaps other retailers, carries this line of "knock off" transformable toys made by a company called Happy Well. They're based on various toy lines, usually Transformers. Recently (late Summer 2004) they got in some decent ones, a transformable jet based on the Macross 7 VF-17 Nightmare Valkyrie, and a transformable tank, based on Transformers: Armada Megatron. The jet is a very well made toy, from the plastic quality to the paint applications to the labels included. And being only $3.96 each, they're great for customizing. The "Tank Bot" is also a deal at $7.77 each, about the same quality, though some of the arm joints were loose (nothing a screwdriver and some clear nail polish can't fix).
