This is "Peace Prayer."  The summer of '04 was dismally rainy in Rochester, NY.  One day, after yet another dreary, steady rain, the clouds parted and the sun shone brightly in my back yard.  I grabbed my camera and photographed a number of flowers, including this one, dripping with rain and in absolutely perfect light.  To me, the rose appeared to be bowing its head in prayer.
Peace Prayer earned an "Honorable Mention" at the 2004 New York State Fair in the category of "Nontraditional Photography, Professional."

This is "Freedom's Trail."  Based on the "signal quilts" supposedly used by slaves escaping along the Underground Railroad, this image honors Rochester's history in the abolitionist movement, incorporating lilacs from Highland Park in the secret message of the Drunkard's Path quilt pattern.
