Seat Belts Save Lives!
August 2000, our family of six was on the way to a wedding. It was a rainy day, and Gregg was not familiar with the area. The car hit standing water in the high-way, and started hydro-planing. Gregg lost control of the car. Then, the car went backwards down into a ditch and started sliding on it's wheels sideways. After sliding for a 100 feet or so, the car flipped, at least once. After flipping, the car came to rest on it's wheels, and the passenger window broke out.
In the front seat was Gregg, driving, Sarah (8 years old), in the middle, and Robyn, on the passenger side. In the rear seat was Jeff (11 years old), behind the driver, Haley (6 1/2 years old), in the middle, and Rachel (12 years old), on the passenger side. EVERYONE was wearing their SEAT BELTS, as is our family habit. EVERYONE walked away from this accident with only bruises. The only blood was Robyn had small nicks from glass in a couple of places on her right arm and right leg.

After being examined at the ER, we continued on to the wedding reception. Where, less than 3 hours after this accident, Rachel, Jeff, Sarah, and Haley were able to dance and have a great time! If they had not been wearing their seat belts, they could have been dead.
So Please Buckle Up your Seat Belts every time you get in the car!
Pictures by Robyn, the day after the accident. The car had been towed out of the ditch to a body shop.
The insurance company took one look at the car, and declared it "an obvious total loss". This car was "new" to us, we had bought it at the end of June 2000. The accident happened mid August 2000. You might think that things like this will never happen to you. That's what I thought! You might say "but my baby/toddler/child HATES their car seat and screams every time I put them in it." Would you rather listen to them screaming from PAIN lying in a hospital? Or, would you rather never have to hear them scream again because they are dead from a car accident? BUCKLE UP YOUR CHILDREN! Refuse to go anywhere until everyone in the car is buckled up. This might be "inconvenient" at times. But, your child is worth the inconvenience if they are Safe in their car seat.
