Dragons

Forced to battle...

Whether high above in the skies, or in the arenas of Battle City, a Dragon battle is a horrible sight.  Once peaceful and intelligent and free, these gorgeous creatures are now caught by trainers and slavers, forced to breed in the seeking of the perfect warrior-dragon, and then they are forced to battle their own brethren.

An honorable death is the best an enslaved dragon can hope for, and perhaps a memorial in Bone Forest, but that is rarely for anything more than champions.  A dragon slain is worth as much as a battle-worthy dragon.  The body is stripped of all things sellable and auctioned.  Dragon meat is a delicacy, dragon bone worth just as much powdered as it is whole, and dragonskin the best leather to be found - much of the rest are considered magical trinkets.

There are of course still wild dragons to be found, most of them in remote regions or under the protection of another people.  Those to be found in their native land around Dragon Mountain are bitter rejects of the slavers, those who are crippled or deformed, and often angry and lonely as well.  Such has become their life that death is more preferable than anything this world has to offer.

However it began, dragon trainers soon came to Dragon Mountain in great numbers.  Rather than give in to slavery and a life of fighting for people, a few dragons fled, the majority of them to the north.  A group remained in the Meadows of Snow, but most of them fled all the way to the Ice Cliffs and the Frozen Sea, led by
Argen, who became King of the Ice Dragons.

The Dragons who refused to give up their homelands and were worthy in the trainers opinions, soon found chains around their necks.  Some of them have wills that are so broken that they can even be ridden without care for themselves, and they fight all the more viciously in the battle arena in order to die bravely and end their suffering.

King Aurelius remained behind when Argen fled, defending his people as best he could.  Now he lies dead, another victim of the Dragon Battles.

So what is to become of these great creatures?  Only the Quest can tell...
