If you have never been to a jam before, then you
are in for a treat.  Some bands and musicians are
good to great and other bands and musicians are from
bad to worse.  But no one should have to feel stupid
if they are not a good musician, it's about having a
good time, and jamming out with fellow musicians
that really matters.  The jam that Gary runs is very
laid back and in a intimate setting.  That's one of the
reasons that it has been going on for so long.
Comming to the jam?  Keep in mind that there is
NO ADMISSION charge to get in to watch or play.
If you are going to play, make sure to bring your
instrument and a chord to hook up to the amps.  If
you are a keyboard player, be prepared to hook up
to the PA.  Drummers should bring their sticks.
If you are comming as a band, then make sure to
come early.  Gary will generally give more time to
play for a band, say half an hour or more.
If it's your first time with out a band or other musicians backing you up, Gary
recommends that you come and watch and introduce yourself to the other musicians
and agree mutually on songs that all of you can do live.  Feel free to bring you own
amp and effects, but keep in mind that you can not play over other musicians.  Gary
has the final say in this!!!  Oh, and most important, make sure to sign in on the SIGN
IN SHEET.  Otherwise you may be overlooked.
Gary can also record you playing on a CD burner.  The
cost is just $10 to record and it includes the CD.  This is a
great thing for bands who want to critique themselves
                                    playing live.
By the way, the food is really good at Hathaways.  I
usually order a Feedbag (that's why they used call it the
the Feedbag).  A Feedbag is a dough thing filled with what
ever you want.  I order the Doc Holiday, it has all
vegetables and is great tasting.  For meat lovers, they have
the Garbage Bag.  A full menu is also available.
Just ask Don the cook to make you something.  The
                                    kitchen stays open till 11pm.
Keep in mind that there is usually a blanket separating the back room area from
the front for noise reasons.  Please don't be intimidated by this, just lift up the blanket,
go into the back room, take a seat, and enjoy the jam.
