Tower Bridge, five minutes walk from the apartment we stayed at for a week.
The view from our London apartment balcony. The Millennium Wheel (Eye of London) where we found several hundred people queued up for the half-hour ride.
The first week was spent in London where we stayed at an apartment owned by a fellow Kiwi.

We spent the second week on a canal boat travelling on the
Avon and Kennet Canal. We travelled from Trowbridge to Reading, a journey which took two hours in the car. We were given a couple of hours tuition on handling the 15 ton Juniper and then it was ours for a week.

The Juniper parked beside the Barge Inn. What a neat place for a pub. Second day we were faced with a flight of 25 locks at Caen which took 5 hours to get through. Don, the master lock operator, reckoned he walked the distance - twice.
After that the locks thinned out a little, although we had to negotiate just over 100 of them altogether, and we had a relatively pleasant week cruising along at two mph.

The third week we picked up a rental car (2000 Renault Laguna) moved into a cottage in Draycott, near the Cheddar Gorge in Somerset, and radiated out in different directions each day to places like Exeter, Portland, Bath, Weston-Super-Mare and Bristol. And of course Don and Gary had to spend the evenings sampling a lot of Somerset cider at the local. Very sociable places those English pubs. Serve good food too.
