Dawgie's [Ton] and Audrey's 2003 San Diego Comic Con Journal

Before anything else let me give a brief introduction about these journal, dawgie, a.k.a. ton martinez was my and marvel zombie guy's [a.k.a. elison's] classmate back at De la salle university, CSB, but even before that ton was already my buddy waaay back in la salle greenhills, now he's presently residing in the U.S.A. specifically in san diego, california with his lovely and loyal wife and sidekick Audrey. Three weeks ago i asked ton for a favor that he get me some news and pics of marvel legends ser.5 and some other toys stuff, to post on my site, but whats more important is that i asked him if he could get me the san diego comic con exclusive mattel batman figure, classic look, sculpted by the legendary four horsemen..., i already knew that its an impossible task especially with mattel announcing the lottery system for buying the figure just like last year with the sdcc exclusive he man fig, but anyway what the heck...so what's at the con, how was it, and was ton able to get the sdcc batman figure, read on the email i got from him to find out......

where the hell are you?? anyway... attached are the pics... they're pretty small in size cause i needed to take more pictures...

anyway... i saw the series 5 figures... they are shweet!!!!! i can't wait for them to come out... they are gorgeous... every single one

of em... they also have the new hulk and xmen legends figs... they are beautiful... you can see em in the attached pics... i'll take

better pics with our normal camera tom... but they won't be developed until... well... until they get developed... hahaha...

the kingdom come figs are extraordinary!!!! not much articulation though... but they look exactly like how alex ross painted em...

very nice... i asked the person at the dc direct booth and she said that they will be out by the end of the month...

so, on to my odyssey with the batman figs... we got to the con at about 7:45 am... well, we actually got to the con at about 7:30 but

with all the misdirections of where we should line up, it took us a little over 15 minutes to figure out where we should be... anyway, we

stood/sat in line for close to 3 hours... they didn't let us in until about 10:15... past that come to think of it... we got our badges then

off we went to the mattel booth... damn the line was long!!! we had to come back to the booth cause they didn't want a very long line,

so we ended up buying the swedish chef and animal figs at palisades... :D... so we went back to the mattel line... and we were quite

happy because there were still a lot of figures in sight... the dude, supervising the line said that we could only buy either/or the batman

fig or the keldor fig... not both on the same day... i was cool with it... but when we got to the booth, the chick said, "ok, here is your ticket

and we will do the drawings at 2:00, by then you will find out if you could buy the figure..." so i look at audrey and go... "we've been in

line for close to 3 hours outside... been on this line for about 15 minutes... and now we don't even know if we'll get the fig... what kinda

bullshit is that??" so needless to say dawgie was pissed... btw - audrey got a ticket too... so we go around the con... bought spawn/miracleman

two pack... audrey bought a "battle of the planets" princess fig and a trinity fig at the wizard booth... then we preceded to the hasbro booth

where the line for the silver boba fett was as long as the line outside... screw that!!! i said... so we go from one end of the con to the other...

on the way, we saw jim lee at the dc booth... stupid me, i left the batman comics in the car... oh well... i'll try to find him tom.... so we

start walking around... getting tired... walk some more... soaking it all in... then we got hungry so we ate at about 12:30 or so... when we

came back i started taking pictures of the con... found the toybiz stuff... oh yeah... MARVEL DOES NOT HAVE A BOOTH!!!! neither does

TOYBIZ... sucks!!!!! i can't believe that crap... i had to find the toybiz stuff at the diamond comics booth... oh well... at least i saw em...

so we walk some more... then 2:00 came... time to check on the bat figs... audrey was waiting with a couple of my co-workers cause she

wanted to get an autograph from a wrestler dude who owns a comic booth shop... he had a booth at the con... :D... so i went back to the

mattel booth and sure enough there was a long freakin line to buy the figs... i look at the ticket numbers and all it was was some handwritten

crap on cardboard that had a number range... let's say it was 540292 - 540792... i looked at both our tickets and we had... 540306 and 540308...

i couldn't believe it... so i asked the dude in line and i go... "bro, is that the range of numbers that can buy the figs??" he goes... "yup... whatcha

got??" i showed him my tics and he goes... "damn, you barely made it??... :D"... so i immediately went to the line and called audrey... i

told audrey that we won and she was ecstatic!!!! i picked up my fig and came back to get her... we waited a bit longer for her wrestler but

he didn't show up... so we went back to mattel and she got her fig... or more precisely... YOUR FIG!!!! we were about to go to see jim lee's

presentation when we saw another line at the booth... it was the four horsemen!!! the guys who came up with the sculpt for batman and keldor...

so we ended up in that line instead... they were really cool dudes!!!! they signed both the figs and the box (i hope you don't mind that we opened

up the external box for them to sign the actual box for the fig)... you'll see the fig with the signatures in the attached zip file... after that... we

went to go see jim lee... all in all it was a pretty cool presentation... he just answered a bunch of questions... after that... we went to the

pre-register booth to buy our badges for tom.... helll no we ain't goin to be in line for 3 hours again... oh yeah... we're going to pre-register for

next year cause the four day package is only 35 bucks!!!! that's freakin cheap considering it's 25 bucks for one day... plus we would be able to

go to the preview night!!! so after we got our badges, we went back to the con... looked at the hasbro booth and the line for boba was still long...

we went looking around at each and every booth... found a couple of things i coulda gotten... didn't... i'm now in "gotta get keldor mode...:D"...

we ended up close to one end of the con when we spotted sergio!!! i shook his hand and had him sign my groo comics... you'll see it on the

pics... i asked him about rufferto and he did say that he passed away... :( ... so after sergio... we went back to looking for crap... nuthing in

particular really... found the ultimate hulk fig... i like it... just not ready to buy it yet... so after our legs told us to give up and go home... i decided

to give boba one more shot... we went back to the booth and sure enough... there was only 3 people in line!!!! i snuck in at the nick of time

cause the chick said "ok your the last one for today... also since you only have a one day pass you can go ahead and get the fig..." SHWEET!!!!

so got up to the booth... bought my fig... then i asked the lady... "is boba fett (the dude in the costume was at the con) gonna be back tom??"

she said yeah, but you have to pay for the signing... gave her another 10 bucks and voila, i get to have my silver boba signed by the real boba... :D

dude looks old now... but he's still boba fett dammit!!! he caught han solo for cryin' out loud!!! he's freakin' cool!!! so after all that we decided to

bid adieu to the con... got all dat??

So before anything else i would like to give a big, big, big, big, big, big, big thanks to ton and audrey for getting me the batman sdcc exclusive, not only were they able to get it, but they were able to have it signed by the four horsemen, on the outer box as well as on the inside of the inner packaging, thanks a lot ton, i really appreciate it...so take a look at what a gem of a fig, my buddy got me....
