Big Boys Toys
(And Activities)
A page for silly toys and activities. These toys can really be very serious. Some of the sites linked to offer some really big kites that can easily drag you around or may be off the ground! Potential for lots of fun there but could be dangerous for younger people. A kite that could drag me about and give me a great workout would easily lift some of my younger friends off into the wild blue yonder! Wonder if their parents would buy me one?
Rockets go up. They also come down!! Think about where they will land and on whom. Dropping 'Big Bertha' (see link below) on the local old folks home is not going to make you popular. Having one of the fire powered ones go wrong and land in flames on a farmers hay store will probably get you arrested!
I like jet engines! Everyone knows that. They combine very hot, fast moving bits of metal and lots of highly flammable fuel! They generate lots of noise and hot, stinking gas. Unfortunately most people are very sad and don't like all this anti-social behavior. I don't know what the legal side is in the UK but there are people here that make these things. Wish I could!!

My Kites ( Not MY kites. I've only got one)
Silly idea! Put flashing lights on your kite and go night flying. Time how long it takes for the police to turn up. Count the number of UFO sightings in the local paper the next day.
Rockets
I've only seen model water rockets at school. It's a good way of getting the kids wet. Some of the others look really exciting!!

Water Rockets - Clifford Heath
We had an activities week at the end of the Summer term. You know those water coolers they have in offices etc.? The ones with a 19 litre plastic water bottle on top? Well we put about 2 1/2 gallons of water in one and pumped it up till the end blew out. Went about 100 feet up. "RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!" we shouted as it came down again. Brill fun!!!!
Jet Engines
These, I guess, are big fun, big danger and big money. Having said that there is a lot of evidence out there in web land that they can be really quite cheap. This is good! They seem to have a good safety record. Excellent!! They are incredibly addictive. Hay! Come on! It's better than drugs.
Principles of Jet engine Operation.
Silly idea but why not add an afterburner? Oh! This guy already has!!

Cliff diving
Apparently it's something to do when not slaying vampires! I leave it to you to find the connection! An extreme sport that can be fatal. Not encouraged in England which is a shame. Follow the links to find out why.
This is a warning I found on one of the sites below
WARNING !!!
Cliff jumping is a very dangerous sport, so if you are not a cliff jumper please
enjoy this site but don't feel you need to go out and start jumping. People have
seriously and even fatally injured themselves, so please be safe. Always swim
down and check the water, always wear shoes, and never jump because your buddy
is callin' you a wimp.
I admit I never wear shoes, I only dive. I ALWAYS swim round the 'landing area' of a new site to check for obstructions, depth of water and type of sea bed. I prefer a sand bed but that's not always possible. I have developed my own shallow water turn out technique which, so far, has always stopped me within 2.5 meters. To be safe I like at least 3 meters of water under me which I recon is safe for dives from up to 4 meters., more if you are skilled at stopping. 5 meters should be deep enough for any height!
I guess the base rule is - IF IN DOUBT DON'T!
You are better off being a LIVE wimp than a DEAD cool kid!!!
