1. Be sure the studio uses either Chemiclave, Autoclave, or Statum sterilization only. All are 100% effective and are accepted by the National Center For Disease Control as an effective means of destroying bacteria and virus by using high heat and pressurized steam. If the studio uses an Autoclave, be sure it is checked regularly for spores. 2. The area to be tattood should be shaved (if necessary) with a disposable razor,and discarded after use. 3. The sealed sterilization pouch, containing your needle and tube, should be opened in front of you. There will be a pink or purple indicator on the envelope as evidence of sterilization when using a Chemiclave or Statum. For an Autoclave, a blue indicator will turn brown. Be sure to check your pouch indicators. 4. All Inks should be poured into one use caps to be discarded after use. Stencils, if used, should also be discarded after use. 5. The artist should wear latex or vinyl examination gloves while tattooing and handling any thing that touches your skin. Nothing else should be touched during the tattoo without being replaced by a new glove. 6. The artist should tend to the tattooed area with surgical solution (green soap) during your tattoo and clean with alcohol after. 7. Finally, your needle should be broken off the bar and discarded to a sharps container in your presence. |
