Threre are several gay-friendly discos in the capital we wanted to list here, but remember that these places are not the gay discos in Western meaning of this word. They are diffrent from the gay discos in Western countries because there are more straight visitors always than gay ones.
111 - 1, Peremohy Square, 07:00 am - 05:00 am, phone: 044/2380286, entrance: 40UAH (8 USD). This is the best disco in Kiev, most popular among gay guys. The big problem for you however will be their face-control. They don't accept new visitors. Your membership has to be
approved by the owner of this disco Mrs. Viola/ However it is not difficult to do. You should visit this disco in the day time first. They
have business lunch 11:00 am - 4:00 pm, happy hour 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm, and chill out zone 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm. During this time you should make agreement with Mrs. Viola for the night disco. If you try, you'll succeed. They had to limit the quantity of visitors because the popularity of this venue is much bigger than the room inside!
Art Club 44 - 44, Khreshchatyk Street, open: 10:00 am - 02:00 am, phone: 044/2294137, entrance: 10-50 UAH (2-10 USD) depending on show. This is live music place with special dancing and relaxing atmosphere located on the main street and attracting many foreign visitors. Relatively inexpensive and of excellent atmosphere. By the way, this disco belongs to the husband of Mrs. Viola from "111".
Rostok aka Androgyn - 26/2 Harmatna Street, open: 9:00 pm - 6:00 am, phone: 044/4414432, entrance: 30 UAH (6 USD). This was the only gay disco here with enormous bad reputation - winner of "Leaden Ass '2000" competition for the worse gay venue of Kiev and many other contests. Crowded Fr. & Sat. Terrible public, notorious and AYOR place, located extremely far from the city center. Subway station "Shulyavska" then you should take tram to the stop "Harmatna". Even the taxi-drivers do not know the location, because it is real hell to drive there. Shemale-Shows (of the lowest & cheapest amateur level) on Fr. and Sat. It is very
humiliating to be there, but if you want to try so called "Ukrainian queer establishment" you should visit it and see by your own eyes. Visitors act like beggars, DJs are totally ungifted and play extremely bad music especially to force the visitors into ordering songs.
Sovok - 17, Vorovsky Street, open: 10:00 pm - 5:00 am, phone: 044/2120447. Very nice place and one absolute must for foreign gay visitor - furnished and decorated like typical Soviet workers' club of later 70's with big portraits of Brezhnev and other authentic symbols of the Soviet epoch. Lovely music, nice friendly people and charming personnel - all these factors made "Sovok" opened in March 2002 very popular. It is crowded by people during Monday-Thursday, and not only during week-ends like most of their competitors.
Boogie DJ - 10, Sofiyivska Street, open: 10:00 pm - 7:00 am, phone: 044/ 2295470, entrance: 25 UAH (5 USD), after 3:00 am - free. New gay-friendly disco located near the main square "Maydan Nezalezhnosti".
Opened in the end of 2003 it doesn't have its own public yet, most visitors are
accidentally persons who just came to see new attraction, but they don't come back because this disco has very special music sound.
