Deed of George and Eva Michael to George Hilkey Deed book 14, page 155 This indenture, made this the eleventh day of May in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven, between George W. Michael and Eva, his wife, of Mineral County and State of West Virginia of the first part, and George Hilkey of Grant County and State of West Virginia of the second part witnessed that the said George W. Michael and Eva his wife for and in consideration of the sun of one hundred dollars to them – in hand paid by the said George Hilkey. At and before the unsealing and delivery hereof, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge; have granted bargained, sold delivered, released and confirmed and by these, present do grant, bargain, sell release and confirm unto the said George Hilkey and to his heirs and assigns, all that certain message or tenement and tract of land, situated in Grant County and state aforesaid, bounded as follows: Beginning at stone and pines marked as pointers on the south side of a ridge in the Kettle Lick line and with said line south 24 west 54 poles to a stake in a line of Gibony and with said line south 13 east 13 poles to same chestnut saplings, the same course continued 40 poles in all, to a stake in a line of the same survey north 20 east 55 poles more or less to a stone and stake on the south side of a hill near a sink hole; north 87 west 40 poles to the beginning containing ten acres be the same more or less. It being the same message or tenement and tract of land which was sold and conveyed to Eva Michael, wife of George W. Michael by William D. Tephaback, by indenture bearing date the tenth day of March A.D. 1892. It being part of the same premises conveyed by Nicholas Michael and Rachel his wife to the said Wm D. Tephaback by indenture bearing date the third day of September A.D 1853. And the party of the first part covenants to and with the party of the second part that they will forever warrant and defend unto the party of the second part his heirs and assign forever the title of said land free from claim or claims of them or their heirs or any person claiming under or by them. In testimony whereof the party of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals this the eleventh day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety seven. Geo W. Michael and Eva Michael, his wife, whose names are signed to the foregoing deed bearing date on the 11th day of May 1897, have this day acknowledged the same before, in my County aforesaid.
