Mrs. Susan Stonestreet is a surgical patient in the Winchester Hospital. Reports are that she is doing well. Last week visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Goldizen were Mrs. Gary Evans and daughters and John Evans of Gormania, Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Kyle, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Cunningham of Petersburg, a sister of Joe Cunningham and her two children of Baltimore, Maryland and Mrs. Shirley Goldizen. The writer and wife visited Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Haslacker Friday evening. We found them well as usual and both were in the garden gathering in vegetables in the cool of the day. Mrs. Josie Rohrbaugh spent last Sunday with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James McGuinness and sons. Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Berg were Sunday dinner guests of Rev. and Mrs. Sam Goldizen at Knobley. W.O. McGuinness of Ruddle spent a couple of days last week with his son and family, Mr. and Mrs. James McGuinness and sons. Several from here attended the Alt-Kimble Reunion Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Brotherton visited Mrs. Josie Rohrbaugh Saturday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Evans and sons were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Junior Goldizen Monday evening. The writer and wife were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Junior Goldizen Tuesday evening. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Loney Keplinger, Jr. and daughters, Dorcas and Priscilla this week have been Mr. and Mrs. Andy Ours. Mrs. Annie Turner of Cabins, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Berg and Brent of Jordan Run, Mr. and Mrs. John Swartz and son, James of Onego. Mr. and Mrs. Loney Keplinger, Jr., were happy to hear the happy news this week from Virginia announcing the birth of John and Lois Risser’s baby son born on August 24. This is the Risser’s 6th child and first son. The Rissers lived in West Virginia several years before moving to Harrisonburg for their church work there. He weighted 5 lbs. 91/2 oz. and has been named John David. Rev. and Mrs. Lynn Rohrbaugh and sons, Jason and Jeremy were visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Rohrbaugh on Saturday evening. Lynn preached at the Jordan Run Union Church on Saturday night on the subject of the “Family” and dedicated Sonnie and Delores Keplinger’s baby daughter. Lahmansville-Medley Mr. and Mrs. Trent Kimble and family have returned to their home after spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Ken Boucher and family of Leesburg, N.J. Sorry to hear that Mr. Boucher has been in the hospital. Hope he is feeling better at this time. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Halterman were dinner guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Whiteman of Luke, Maryland. Johnny Halterman was an overnight guest in the home of Johnny Weatherholtz recently. Mrs. Thelma Stallings has retuned to her home after vacationing in Canada. Sorry to hear that Woodrow Porter is in the Grant Memorial Hospital. Johnny Halterman attended the Little League Picnic with Mr. and Mrs. Archie Veach, Rodney and Jerry. It was held at the park in Petersburg. A marriage license was issued recently in Oakland, Maryland to Jeffrey Cletus Shreve, Upper Tract and Debra Diane Kuykendall, Petersburg. A former resident was killed when the auto he was driving crashed near Star Tannery, Virginia recently. He was Jerry Wayne Kimble, 27 of route 3, Strasburg, and was born in Upper Tract, the son of Golden Vincent Kimble and the late Delora Ruth Borror. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Borror, Dougie and Matt spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Borror and family in Greencastle, Pa. On Sunday they toured the Antietam Battlefield with Mr. and Mrs. J. Gilbert Everline of Boonsboro, Maryland. Miss Violet Likens returned to her home in Medley Sunday evening after spending a week’s vacation in Manassas, Virginia with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sisler. We hope for her a speedy recovery and back home soon. The annual homecoming at Mt. Hereb U. M. Church of Moser was well attended Sunday. Mrs. Mary Bruce spent a few days in Keyser this week with her daughter, Mrs. Frances Malin. Mrs. Mary Stewart visited Mrs. Jane Stewart one day this week. Frs. Francis Clark spent the afternoon with Edna Stewart one day this week. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Vance and family of Baltimore, Maryland were visiting in Petersburg and Williamsport this week. Ralph Kent visited Thomas Cole of Moorefield Friday. Mrs. Beulah Bruce is visiting her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Twyman of California. Mrs. Freda Rolls plans a visit there for return trip with Mrs. Bruce. Joseph Harris of Clarksburg visited his sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kent. Pat Borror Sherman and Rudy Parker Wed Marriage vows were exchanged between Pat Borror Sherman and Rudy Parker on July 30th at the Grove Street United Methodist church. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Borror of Landes are the parents of the bride, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Parker of Alexandria, Virginia. At seven in the evening double ring ceremony was performed by pastor the Rev. Richard Longbon. Mrs. Arlyn Arnold, organist provided traditional wedding music for the ceremony. Patti Sherman escorted her mother to the alter. The bride was attired in a light blue gown. The long sleeve dress was on sheer voile of polyester cotton over an acetate lining, featuring a V-neck and a set in midriff and a wide lace touched with beige. She carried a bouquet of carnations and her only jewelry was a silver locket, gift of the groom. Best man was Roland Borror, brother of the bride. Following the ceremony the couple greeted their family and friends at a reception at the home of the couple. The two-tiered wedding cake made by Mrs. Ruth Keplinger, sister of the bride, was served by Mrs. Keplinger and Mrs. Douglas Borror, sister-in-law of the bride, presided at the punch bowl. Other aides were Betty Daughtry, friend of the bride and groom. Mrs. Phyllis Shook, Mrs. Shirley Feaster, Mrs. Hilda Kesner, Mrs. Wanda Ellis, Sisters of the bride and Mrs. Roland Borror, sister-in-law of the bride. Mrs. Parker is a graduate of Petersburg High School. The groom is a graduate of Edison High School, Alexandria, Virginia and is now employed by Windsor Knit, Petersburg. Obits Frank M. Sites: Last rites were held yesterday at the graveside for Frank M. Sites, 59 who died at his home Sunday. The Reverend Connell Chaney officiated and interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Born January 07, 1918, deceased was a son of the late Strite Sites and Rosie Borror Sites. One daughter preceded him in death. Surviving are one son, Roger L. sites, Bristol, Virginia, three daughters, Genevieve Hamilton and June Hall, Lexington, Virginia and Linda Posey, Manassas, Virginia; 6 sisters, Mrs. Bessie Jenkins and Mrs. Hattie Ayers, Moorefield, Mrs. Ruby Getz, Brandywine, Mrs. May Whetzel, Miss Lula Sites, Petersburg and Mrs. Evers Sites, Bridgewater, Virginia, two brothers, Henry L. Sites, Petersburg and Lloyd Sites, Burlington. Arrangements were in charge of the Schaeffer Funeral Home. David C. Kimble, 65, of Moorefield, and formerly of here, died suddenly Friday. He had been in ill health. A native of Pendleton County, he was a son of the late Raleigh and Annie (Alt) Kimble. He was a retired pipeline construction worker. Surviving are his widow, Grace Mae (Delawder) Kimble; two sons, David A. and Daniel B. Kimble, Moorefield, a sister, Mrs. Lula Alt, Upper Tract; three brothers, Eston Kimble, Landes; Stanley Kimble, here and Leonard Kimble, Keyser and one grandson. Services were conducted Monday afternoon at Faith Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Joseph Eversole officiated. Interment was in Lahmansville Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Schaeffer Funeral home. Mrs. Mary Ethel Borror, 37 of Upper Tract, died suddenly Tuesday at her residence. A native of Grant County, she was a daughter of Mrs. Annie (Kimble) Self, and the late Olie Self. She had been employed by the Franklin Garment Company for 10 years and was a member of Petersburg Branch Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Also surviving are her husband, Baxter K. Borror; a daughter, Miss Barbara Borror, at home; two sons, Denver and Tommy Borror, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Aretta Helmick, Winchester, Virginia; Mrs. Verda Kimble, Mrs. Zula Alt, Baltimore, Maryland; three brothers, Vincent Self, Cumberland, Maryland, Jimmy Self, Burlington and Cleo Self, Baltimore. A service was conducted Thursday afternoon at the Schaeffer Funeral Home Mrs. Belinda Sears, 93 of Petersburg died Monday. August 1977. She was a daughter of the late Noah and Hannah (Jordan) VanMeter and was the widow of Edward Sears, who died in 1970. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Sarah Moyers, Flintstone, Maryland and a brother Arlie VanMeter, here. Services will be conducted this (Wednesday) afternoon at 3:30 p.n. at the Arnold Funeral Home Chapel Rev. Lowell R. Rogers will officiate and interment will follow in the Lahmansville Cemetery. St. John’s Alumni Votes to Memorialize Dr. & Mrs. A. E. Krause Members of St. John’s Alumni along with relatives and friends met in the Petersburg Elementary School cafeteria Sunday August 21 at 1 p.m. and enjoyed as usual the covered dish luncheon. Following the luncheon, group singing was in charge of Mary Smith Sanger and Carmen Le Fevre. C. D. Sions, president, conducted the business session at which time several items of business were transacted. Mrs. Fleta Shobe, secretary, read letters from several members who could not attend. The group voted to hold the reunion every two years on the third Sunday in August. Elections of officers followed and the following officers were elected: Chairman, Richard Shaffer; Co-chairman, James Dyer; Secretary, Fleta Shobe; Treasurer, Tom Sites. Upon a suggestion of one of the members a vote was taken and it was decided that since the Pendleton Nursing home is operated under the auspices of the Lutheran Church, that a room be furnished and a plaque placed on the door in memory of Dr. and Mrs. A. E. Krause. The president appointed Alva Temple, Bardon Harper and Josie Trumbo as a committee to investigate the plan and make a report at the next meeting. The Memorial Service for deceased members was in charge of Miss Olive Shaffer Scripture and prayer was given by Mrs. Verda Shaffer Hetrick. An impressive part of the ceremony was the placing of red rose buds in a vase on the alter by friends of the deceased. Those taking part wee Virgil Dahmer, Robert Stallings, Ruth White Cotterman, Ruth Trumbo Finley, Lloyd Snyder, Esther Cosner Secrist, Richard Shaffer, Chester Shaffer, Tom Sites and Freeda Reel Ours. Commemorated were Ellis Berg Doll, Russell Dahmer, Tabitha Harness Rasmussen, Arvella Harper, May, Hilary L. Hosste, Victoria Secrist Shartiger, Brook Smith, Kenny C. VanMeter, Jr. Arnold Stallings, Clarice Tucker Feaster, Howard Whetzel and Frances Dyer Finley. The ceremony closed with a solo “How Great Thou Art” by Marcel LdFevre, accompanied by Mrs. LeFevre. This year being the 50th anniversary of the Class of ’27 Mr. Sions presented each member with a copy of the June 1927 issue of the Mountain Ripple, a publication put out by the school during the years of its existence.
