A-B Sunday observed at Dorcas and North Mill
Steve Lares of Parsons, a senior at Alderson-Broaddus College, spoke and sang during the morning wo4rship services at the Dorcas Baptist and North Mill Creek Baptist Churches Sunday.  Mr. Lares was accompanied by his wife, Diane, a physician assistant graduate of A-B.   Mr. and Mrs. Lares were guests at a covered dish luncheon held at the Dorcas Baptist Church at 12 noon.

EA-ABW Rally this Saturday
The American Baptist Women of Eastern Association will hold their Spring Rally Saturday, April 14, at the Little Capon Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until 2 p.n.  All are welcome.

The program will feature Dr. Barnett of Romney who will speak on his trip in February to Haiti as a part of the West Virginia State Mission Tour directed by Rev. Maurice Phillips.

PTA meeting April 16
The Parent Teacher Association of the Dorcas Elementary School will hold its regular meeting Monday, April 16, beginning at 7 p.m. at the school.  This is the annual meeting of the association at which new officers will be elected and installed and the report of the auditors received.

Sunrise Services at Dorcas Baptist
The public is invited to Sunrise Services at the Dorcas Baptist Church on Easter Sunday, April 22 beginning at 6:30 a.m.  A breakfast will follow the services and all are invited.

Worship services on Easter Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. are being arranged by the ABW in observance of American Baptist Women’s Sunday.  Plans are to present a musical program dramatizing the experiences of Jesus’ followers at the time of His death and resurrection.
 
BYF enjoys Hayride-Lock-in
Youth enjoyed a hayride and lock-in Friday evening at the Dorcas Baptist church.  In attendance on the hayride were:  Kathy Hinkle, Christy Hinkle, Ruth Weese, Dana Weese, Harry Haggerty, Warron Paul Borror II, Eric Heavener, Daniel and Terri Alt, Becky Thorne and Darl and Delores Alt.  The youth wish to thank Darren Alt for driving the tractor; Leo Sites for the loan of the tractor; and Larkin Ours for the loan of the hay wagon.
  
After the hayride, the youth enjoyed movies, a record rap session, musical chairs, wink game, a creative Easter Bible Study entitles, “Really Living”, an Easter bunny craft, pizza, prayer, devotions, a wiener roast while on the hayride and breakfast, clean-up and morning watch before going home at 8 a.m.

At their regular meeting Sunday Afternoon, the BYF planned a bike ride outing for May and a walk-a-Thon in June to benefit “World Hunger”; President Christy Hinkle chaired the meeting.  Paul Borror led in the closing prayer.  Counselor Delores Alt led the program on Relationships, Exploring how we deal with Cliques and people who seem stuck-up.

Lahmansville/Medley Area News and Notes

Mrs. Patty Bosley and daughter, Sherry, Carlisle, PA, spent the weekend with Mrs. Earl Halterman.

The Lahmansville Extension Homemakers Club will meet at the Forman Community Center Wednesday evening, April 18, at 7:30 with Mrs. June Inskeep and Mrs. Edna Stewart as hostesses.

John Halterman, West Virginia University, spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Earl Halterman.

Mrs. Patty Bosley, Carlisle, PA and John Halterman were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gary Lahman and family.

The Lahmansville United Methodist Church is having a revival from the 9th of April through the 15th.  Rev. Kile will be bringing the messages with special singing nightly at 7:30.  Everyone is welcome.

The Lahmansville Ladies Aid met in the home of Mrs. Kathryn Morrison on Wednesday evening, April 4.  The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Delores Clark.  The secretary read the minutes of the last meeting and also had roll call, followed by the treasurer’s report.  Mrs. Morrison was in charge of devotions, which consisted of telling how Christians are abusing the 23rdPsalm.  Several items of business were discussed.  The lesson, Proverbs, 3 was led by George Widmyer with everyone participating.  The meeting was closed with everyone joining hands and singing, “Bless Be the Tie”, and praying the Lord’s Prayer.  Refreshments were served to 11 members and three visitors.

Glad to hear that Mrs. Debbie Shreve is home from the Grant Memorial Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Trent Kimble, Michael and Laurie, and Mrs. Lillian Halterman were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Mike Hall and son on Monday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Blake Rohrbaugh celebrated their anniversary with dinner in their home on Saturday evening, March 31.  Those helping to celebrate the occasion were Kim Rohrbaugh, Swanson Secrist, Andy Rohrbaugh, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Lahman and Adam, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lahman, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Secrist, Mr. and Mrs. Park Porter, Mr. an Mrs. Dough Rexroad, Sonya, Heather, and Tressy, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Secrist, Aaron and Johanna, Angie Evans and Willie, Peggy Judy, Debbie Shreve, Derek, Dena and Danielle, and Allen Porter and Robbie.

John Halterman were visiting Mrs. Velma Lahman and Oscar Halterman.

Sorry to hear that Mrs. Nancy Goldizen has been a patient in the grant Memorial Hospital, but hope he is improving at home.

On Saturday of this week, April 14, a group of students from the English classes at Petersburg High School will be leaving for nine days of sightseeing in London, England, a trip for which they have earned most of the money for their expenses.  Those from the Maysville area who will be making the trip are Dana cook, Manesa Berg, Brent Cook and Libby Watts, Among the points of interest which they hope to see are Buckingham Palace, Eton College, Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Stratford on Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace.  They are due to return home on Easter Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Meadows and Nettle, were houseguests last Tuesday and Wednesday in the home of her brother0in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Painter, Arthur.

Odell Arbogast, Scherr, a patient in the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, underwent major surgery last Wednesday.  He remains in the intensive care unit.

Weekend before last, visitors in the home of Mrs. Susie Bergeson, Maysville, were her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kessel, and their son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. David Kessel, and children, Derick and Miranda, all of Parkersburg.  On Saturday evening they gave a birthday party for Mrs. Bergeson in her home.  Additional guests present for the party were Mrs. Alice Kessel, Williamsport, Mr. and Mrs. Galen Duling, Scherr; and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weimer, Maysville.

Mrs. Debbie Shreve, Maysville, entered the Grant Memorial Hospital on Friday, March 23, and was discharged on Tuesday, the 27th.

On Saturday March 31, Mrs. Pat Bosley and daughter, Michelle Bosley of Maysville went o LaVale, Maryland to attend the wedding of Julie Boyce, LaVale, and Randy Spies of Hagerstown, Maryland at the Methodist Church in LaVale.

Mrs. Pearl Secrist, Scherr; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Secrist, Petersburg, and Mr. and Mrs. Terry Elliott, Kitzmiller, Maryland went to Washington, D. C. on Saturday, March 31, to visit with Mrs. Secrist’s Granddaughter, 13-year –old Jeannette Colman, who is a patient in the Children’s Hospital, in Washington.  Jeanette’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Colman, Silver spring, Maryland.

June Stull and her cousin, Ann Butherbaugh, both of McConnellsburg, PA, visited on Sunday, April 01, 1ith Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Cook and family and Mrs. Millie Cook all of Maysville and with Freeda Stull, Petersburg.

Emory Feaster, Maysville was discharged from the grant Memorial Hospital Petersburg on Thursday of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Orland Parks, Jr. and son, Brian, Morgantown spent last weekend at their house at Scherr and also visited with Dillon Parks, Scherr.

Mrs. Virginia Bosley, Piedmont, daughter of Mrs. Pearl Hawk, Scherr was discharged last Wednesday from the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Guests of Mrs. Elsie Reel and her daughter, Imogene of Maysville on the weekend of March 23-25, wee Mrs. Reel’s son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lantz, and their daughter, Jeannette, Morgantown.  After her parents went home, Jeannette remained for a longer visit with her grandmother and aunt, returning to Morgantown on Wednesday March 28th.

Erica Liebig, Ridgeville, spent last week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Hawk, Scherr.

Mr. and Mrs. William Bouldin, Maysville were in Arlington, Virginia where she had a medical appointment last Thursday.  The Bouldins left here on Wednesday morning for Powhatan, Virginia, where they had lunch with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kennon Bouldin.  From there, they went to Alexandria, Virginia for a visit and were dinner guests of his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Bouldin.  They spent Wednesday night and Thursday with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Terence Murphy and sons, Shane and Brent in Herndon, Virginia.  At the Murphys’ home they enjoyed a family party, honoring Mr. Bouldin’s birthday.  They returned home late Thursday. 

Mrs. Freeda Brown, Keyser, visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Truman Johnson, Scherr last Sunday afternoon.

Visiting Mrs. Frances Kimble, Maysville last weekend was her son Reggie Kimble, Silver Spring, Maryland.

Recent guests in the home of John and Lucy Hipp, Scherr were Mrs. Nellie Ruby, Baltimore, Maryland; Mrs. Alice Hipp and Hobert Hipp, both of Mt. Storm; Dale Cosner, Cresaptown, Maryland and his son, Tim Cosner, Keyser; and Mrs. Bonnie Layton, Rawlings, Maryland; who took Lucy, her sister to Petersburg.

We are sorry to learn of the death last Saturday April 07, of James Moore of Niceville, Florida who at the time of his death was a patient in the Eglon Air Force Base Hospital.  His widow, Betty is a sister of Galen Duling, Scherr.  Galen and his two brothers, William and Clyde Duling both of Baltimore, Maryland left for Florida on Tuesday.  Mr. Moore’s funeral was scheduled for Thursday of this week, April 12 at Pensacola, Florida.

Mr. and Mrs. John Morrison, Arthur, went to Lexington, Virginia last Friday where they visited with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William Leech and to Verona, Virginia where they visited with his sister, Mrs. Marian Lutz and her son, Webb Lutz.  On Saturday they returned to Lexington for the funeral of a cousin, Douglas Stohecker returning home on Saturday afternoon.

Last Sunday, April 1, we received our baby chicks.  After growing chickens for around 40 years, that was the first time to get them on Sunday.  It seems that the day we are living in, Sunday is just another day to many.

A Pre-Easter Service is planned at the Jordan Run Union church beginning Wednesday evening, April 18, through Friday at 7, with a Love Feast and communion Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.  And a Sunrise service will be held on Sunday morning beginning at 6:30 a.m.  All are invited to attend.

Mrs. Mable Barger and son, Lloyd was visiting her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Albert bowman of Rawlings, Maryland.  They also visited her brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Fred Flangan at Keyser and were dinner guest of the Flagans on Monday of last week.

Mrs. Nida Brotherton spent a few days in the local hospital but returned home on Wednesday.  Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Berg of Arthur visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Goldizen and family Sunday.

Mrs. Madeline Kimble and daughter of Upper Track visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Keplinger Tuesday and their grandson, Michael Keplinger of Cabins called on them Sunday evening.

Little Cristi Jo McGuinness, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James McCuinness became ill Sunday, April 1 and was checked at Grant Memorial Hospital and sent on to the Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Maryland, where she was a patient until Thursday, April 5, when she returned home.  We hope she continues to recuperate satisfactorily.

Mr. and Mrs. David Berg visited Mr. and Mrs. Tom Goldizen and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Berg and children Sunday afternoon.

Misses Twila and Pansy Berg spent last weekend in Harrisonburg with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smith and daughter.

Mr. and Mrs. Riley Rohrbaugh of Goshen, Ind., spent last weekend here visiting relatives and friends.

Mrs. Ruby Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Williams and Mrs. Herbert Williams, all of Prince George, Virginia visited Mr. and Mrs. James McGuinness and family and other relatives here part of the week of April 1, returning home Friday.  Mrs. Williams is a sister of the late Mrs. Josie Rohrbaugh.

Rev. Sam Goldizen of Antioch drove his father, Tom Goldizen to Cumberland, Maryland Wednesday where he consulted a doctor.

Mr. and Mrs. Rosco Simmons of Odenton, Maryland and Miss Carolyn Simmons of Harrisonburg, Virginia stopped in for a short visit with Mrs. Esta Kimble Wednesday.  They were en route to Petersburg to attend the funeral of their cousin, Glenna Stump.

Mr. and Mrs. Evers Turner attended a banquet in Baltimore, Maryland, Friday, hosted by Ryder’s the occasion being in honor of the Driver of the Year Award.  Evers received the award for the state of Maryland.  He is employed by Adell Polymer of Petersburg.

Mrs. Wanda Showalter of Verona Virginia spent the weekend here visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Olie Kimble.

The Rev. and Mrs. Bruce Cosner of Petersburg called on Esta Kimble Tuesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Eves Turner were visiting their brother, Harman Turner in Winchester, Virginia.  Mr. Turner is recovering from heart surgery.

The U. M. W. met with Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Stewart and Margie Simmons, as co-hostess, on April 10.

Marie Kovech and Joe Hornak spent the weekend here.

Frances Clark and children, Loretta, and Edward Jr. and the writer were shopping in the Tri-Towns and Keyser Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Riggleman and daughter, Patty visited the Wilson Stewarts Saturday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hartzler were given a surprise 40th anniversary party Sunday as the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James Hartzler.  Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hartzler, Dayton, Virginia; David Basinger, Harrisonburg, Virginia; Mr. and Mrs. Dale Basinger and son, Richard, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Basinger, Bay Port, Michigan; Mr. and Mrs. Oris Basinger, Lanham, Maryland; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Collins and daughter, Harrisonburg, Virginia; and Mary Hartzler of Union, Michigan and a host of friends and neighbors.  We wish them many more.

Cameron, Judy Engagement

Mr. and Mrs. Paul A. “Tommy” Cameron of Strasburg, Virginia and Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. “Buck” Judy of Bayard are announcing the engagement of their children, Paula Annette Cameron and Allen Lawrence Judy.

Miss Cameron is a 1980 graduate of Strasburg High School and a 1981 graduate of Lord Fairfax Community College.  She is employed by the Cardiopulmonary Laboratory at Winchester Virginia Memorial Hospital.

Judy is a 1982 graduate of Union High School at Mt. Storm and is employed by North American Housing, Front Royal.

A May 26 wedding is being planned.

Obituary

Former Orchard Employee
Mrs. Manda Lee Riggleman, 68, of Kirby, died Monday April 02, 1984 at Grant Memorial Hospital.

Born in Okalossa County, Florida, she was a daughter of the late George Atwell and Addie (Griffith) Atwell. 

She formerly was employed by Romney Orchards.

Surviving are her husband, Madison E. Riggleman, a daughter, Genieve Dixon, Reno, Nevada.; four sons, L. V. Moore, Petersburg, Franklin Moore, Naples, Florida, Dale Riggleman, Romney, Tinker Riggleman, White Post, Virginia; two brothers, Henry Atwell and Ruby F. Atwell, Cress View Florida; 26 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, Thursday Morning by the Rev. John Litten, Interment was in Rock Oak Cemetery, Baker.

The family of Mrs. Joe (Betty) Clark of Maysville gave her a surprise birthday party on April 1 at the Maysville Fire House.

The Busy Homemakers met in the Grant county Library on March 21 with 14 members present.

Jean Hill shoed a short film entitled, “The Priceless Gift” showing ways to prevent and detect mouth cancer.

Devotions were let by Wayne Brown, reading a poem, “We Walk in a Strange World”, followed by prayer.

Edna Post read a poem entitled “Morning of January 18”, she had written to enter the arts show.

Several members brought 4x4 squares need to make baby blankets for children in Iran.  Anyone having more should bring them to the library.

A letter from the “Fresh Air Fund Program” was read by the president wanting our club to support and sponsor a child for two weeks this summer. Members were interested and Dot Roy was to be contacted to be chairman of this committee.

The “Grant County Belle” is to be selected soon, and several names were discussed to be presented to the Homemakers Committee.

One “Welcome Basket” was delivered by our club and Virginia Sturgil and Jean Hill were to deliver another.

Dee This presented our lesson, “When Ends Don’t Meet”, which focused on where your take-home pay goes, where you want it to go and directing your spending to get more satisfaction from it.

Refreshments were served by Dee This and Jean Hill in the absence of Mary Martin.  The April meeting will have Nod Harmison and Betty McCartney acting as hostesses.
