Will of Jacob Hanlin

Jacob Sanford Hanlin, son of Joseph E. Hanlin and Ruth Hilkey, he was born 10-28-1845 and died 2-23-1904. Married on  4-12-1865 to Sarah Catherine Rinker, born 4-16-1844 and died 3-21-1900.

I, Jacob S. Hanlin living near Scherr, in Grant County West Virginia, being of sound mind, but knowing the certainty of death, do hereby make and publish this my last will and testament.

To my daughter Maria Cecelia, I bequeath the bay colt (2yrs old) the side-saddle, the white cow, the side-board (or dresser).

To Arthur Fillmore, I bequeath Forty Dollars to be paid out of my estate.

I will and bequeath to the Brethern Church, Twenty-five Dollars. the same to be paid out of my estate, to Dennis Clark or in the event of the death of Dennis Clark to be paid to the Secretary of the Greenland Brethern Church.

I bequeath for the fencing of the grave yard known as the Idleman grave-yard, Five Dollars, same to be paid out of my estate when said fence is made to Jacob F. Idleman.

To my sons Kaspar Basil and Arthur Fillmore, to my Daughter Maria Cecelia & my grandson Jesse Edward, I bequeath each equally one bed & bedding each of my other children having each received one bed and bedding, I desire the four named also to have one bed and bedding.

To Alexander Turner, I bequeath Twenty-five dollars to be paid out of my estate. I bequeath to my sons Benjamin Franklin, Kaspar Basil, Arthur Fillmore, my Grandson Jesse Edward, to my daughter Rachel Ann, Arena Alice & Maria Cecelia, each equally the remainder of my estate after the bequeath first mentioned have been distributed or settled, and my funeral expenses indebtedness,-if any, and so forth have been paid.

It is my desire that appraisers be appointed to appraise my personal effects, money, bonds &c, and if my children afore-named all agree and are willing with each other, to divide my estate without difficulty or ill feelings towards each other and the Guardian of Jesse Edward concur also, then said estate shall be divided and distributed as before named without sale, otherwise sale shall be made, and distribution made as provided in the foregoing bequeaths.

I nominate and appoint my son Kaspar Basil, as and to be the Executor of this my last will and testament.

In testimony whereof I hereby publish & declare as, this my Last Will & Testament, my signature and seal, this 30" day of January in the year 1904.

In the office of the Clerk of the County Court of Grant County, in the recess of said Court, March 11, 1904.

This day the Last Will and Testament of Jacob S. Hanlin, late of Grant County, deceased, was fully proven by the oaths of T. M. Michael and John J. Idleman, two of the subscribing witnesses thereto; Whereupon, it is ordered that the said will be recorded as the true Last Will and Testament of the said Jacob S. Hanlin, deceased.
