Frank Edward Coler, 92, of Maysville, died March 25, 2002  at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born Aug. 8, 1909, in Maysville, he was the son of the late Frank H. and Mary Ellen (Reel) Coler.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Velma Elizabeth (Schartiger) Coler; one daughter, Donna Idleman and husband, Douglas, of Maysville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were March 28, at the Otterbein United Methodist Church, with interment in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Joe Henry Cooper, 77, of Harman, died March 26, 2002  at the Holbrook Nursing Home, Buckhannon.

Born March 13, 1924, at Harman, he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Flodie (Lantz) Cooper. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elva (Hedrick) Cooper, Aug. 7, 1988.

He is survived by two sons, Joe Henry Cooper Jr. of Harman and Earl Summerfield of Missouri; five daughters, Wilma C. "Willie" Elliot of Wadestown, Eleanor Barr of Stephens City, Va., Virginia Bland of Petersburg, Mary Cardill of Dixon, Ky., and Thelma Richardson of King George, Va.; two sisters, Phoebe L. Lawrence of Alexandria, Va. and Carol Jean Pine of Radcliff, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were March 29, at the Harman Church of the Brethren, with interment in the Cooper Cemetery, Harman. H.W. Daniel's Post #29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted full military rites.

Lloyd David Clark, 86, of Petersburg, died March 21, 2002 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. He had been a resident of the Grant County Nursing Home for the past year.

Born Oct. 20, 1915, in Row, Okla., he was the son of the late William J. and Della L. (Riley) Clark.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary (Moomau) Clark; one daughter, Phyllis A. Harman of Woodstock, Va. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were March 24, at the Petersburg Presbyterian Church, with interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

William Thomas Cain, 58, of Berkeley Springs, formerly of Daytona Beach, Fla., died March 10, 2002  at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born June 6, 1943, in West Chester County, Pa., he was the son of the late William Cain and Ann (Munce) Cain Jester.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sherry Lee (Patch) Cain, at home and formerly of Petersburg; two sons, Mark William Cain of Radcliff, Ky., and Dylan Thomas Cain of Berkeley Springs; two daughters, Kimberly Ane Gomez of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ashley Marie Cain of Berkeley Springs; two sisters, Joanne Fuller and Katherine Cain, both of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, John Cain of Norfolk and Thomas Cain of Daytona Beach; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were March 14, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Berkeley Springs. Interment was private.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

Mrs. Flora Ellen (Kitzmiller) Cosner, 88, of Mt. Storm, died Feb. 27, 20002  at the Hampshire Center, Romney, where she had resided since April 6, 2000.

Born April 25, 1913 in Mt. Storm, she was the daughter of the late Walter Filmore Kitzmiller and Prudence Etalka (Aronhalt) Kitzmiller.

She married Amos O. Cosner, Aug. 28, 1928 and he preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1994.

She is survived by one daughter, Frances Alt and husband, Delmar of Petersburg; one granddaughter, Tammy Pehowski of Winchester, Va,; three great-grandchildren, E.J., Amanda and Desert; two sisters, Corene Shepard and Kathleen Rinker and husband, Luther, all of Mt. Storm; sister-in-law, Mildred Cosner of Cumberland, Md.; and brother-in-law, Ray Cosner of the Hampshire Center, Romney.

Funeral services were March 2, at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, with interment in the Idleman Cemetery, Scherr.

Memorials may be made to the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren building fund or Petersburg Memorial Church of the Brethren.

Helen M. Callis, 63, of Oakland, Md., died Feb. 12, 2002  at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.

Born July 4, 1938, in Bayard, she was the daughter of the late Gorman M. and Edna V. (Davis) Cullers.

Emmard William Cook, 75, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and formerly of Harpers Ferry and Maysville, died Jan. 25, 2002  at his home in Myrtle Beach.

Born Jan. 10, 1927, in Jordan Run, he was the son of the late Floyd and Mary (Rohrbaugh) Cook.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia S. Curtis Ford Calhoun, 90, of Petersburg, died Jan. 26, 2002  at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, where he had been a resident since April 10, 2000.

Born Sept. 23, 1911, in Brushy Run, he was the son of the late Martin Dow and Rachel Ann (Graham) Calhoun. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby (Cowger) Calhoun in 1977.

He is survived by his second wife, Doris M. (Carbaugh) Calhoun, whom he married June 26, 1985; one son, Marlin W. Calhoun and wife, Ada, of Cleveland, Ohio; one stepdaughter, Judy A. Reedy and husband, Hurley, of Moorefield; three sisters, Kate Alt of Landes, Lillian Miller of Harrisonburg, Va., and Bessie Hevener of Mount Crawford, Va.; two brothers, Olin Calhoun and Quentin Calhoun, both of Upper Tract; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Grant E. Cosner, 76 of 521 Maryland Ave., Westernport, Maryland, died Sunday January 25, 1998 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Maryland

Born January 20, 1922, in Mt. Storm, WV, he was the son of the late Harry and Virgie (Hanlin) Cosner. He was also preceded in death by a good friend, June Gerfin.

Mr. Cosner was a Veteran of World War II, and a retired worker at Allegheny Ballistics laboratory. He was a member of Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport, Maryland.

Surviving are one son, Leonard Cosner, New Creek, WV; two daughters, Janice Stein, Swanton, Maryland and Donna Earling, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother. Oscar Cosner, Westernport, Maryland; one sister, Gilda Ferguson, Memphis Tennessee; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 29, at Philos Cemetery, Westernport, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ervin Huston officiating.

The body was cremated at Mr. Cosner’s request.

Boal Funeral Home in Westernport is in charge of arrangements.

Alva Alston Cosner, 68, of Mt. Storm, WV, died Saturday, August 27, 1994 at the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, WV.

Born July 24, 1926 in Bismark, he was the son of the late Zina and Ida (Cosner) Cosner. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lorna Lee (Cosner) Cosner.

Surviving are his second wife, Anita (Lawrence) Rohrbaugh Cosner; one son, David W. Cosner, Keyser, WV; two step-daughters, Anna Saltalamachia, Gahanna, Ohio; Shannon Keplinger, Maysville, WV; two sisters, Pearl McDowell and Elsie Kitzmiller, both of Mount Storm; one aunt, Cynthia Kitzmiller, Mt. Storm; two grandsons; five step-grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Cosner was a truck driver. He drove for sterling Facets of Morgantown and for Allegany Mining until he retired.

He was a member of the Locust Grove church of the Brethren at Bismark and was an Army veteran of WW II and was a member of the Abraham Lincoln VFW Post 6735 of Mt. Storm.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, WV

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren by the Rev. John Walker and Rev. Wesley George.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday to lie in state till time of services at 1 p.m.

Calvin M. Cosner, 86 of Baltimore, Maryland, formerly of Mt. Storm, WV died Friday, December 30, 1995, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland.

Born October 13, 1908, Mt Storm, WV he was the son of the late Job T. and Amanda (Cosner) Cosner. He was also preceded in death by three sons, Wade Cosner, Marshall Cosner and Vernon Cosner.

He was a retired woodsman and construction worker.

He is survived by his wife, Onie H. (Arnhaolt) Cosner, one daughter, Celia Tyszko, Baltimore; four sons Oliver Cosner, Cumberland, Maryland, Irvin Cosner, Martinsburg, Melvin Cosner, Baltimore, Maryland and Tommy Cosner, Silver Springs, Maryland; 10 grandchildren and 19 Great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Locust Grove church of the Brethren. Mt. Storm, WV, with the Rev. Philip Bonner officiating. Interment was in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Mt. Storm.

Denver Julius Conrad, 82, Maysville, died Saturday, November 24, 2001, at Grant County Nursing Home in Petersburg.

Mr. Conrad was born May 3, 1919, in Smoke Hole, and was the son of the late Gabriel Conrad and Cora Landis Conrad.

He was a World War II Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a retired custodian at Petersburg High School. He also worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways.

Mr. Conrad was also a member of the United Methodist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

His wife, Verda Ethel Judy Conrad, preceded him in death in 1964.

He is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Weese and Marcella Ruth Hinkle, both of Maysville, and Norma Jean Bible, Petersburg; two step-daughters, Ella Sue Trubo of Harrisonburg, VA, and Virginia Goding, Orlando, FL; two sons, Jearl Wayne Conrad, Cumberland, MD, and Jackie Lynn Judy, Maysville; one brother, Carl Conrad, Petersburg; nine grandchildren, Willie Patch, Frankie Weese, Baron and Jodi Bible, J.R., Carla and Whitney Hinkle, Stephanie Judy and Kevin Conrad; one great-grandchild, Kaylee Bible; and two step-grandchildren, Nici Lytton and Sharon Trumbo.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Conrad was preceded in death by six brothers, Lester, Glenn, Charlie, Philip, Emmett and Bryson Conrad; and five sisters, Minnie Kimble, Laura Shreve, Nellie Bergdoll, Annie Nelson and Alice Conrad.

The Revs. Paul Dye and Greg Bland conducted the funeral Tuesday at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg with military graveside services by the Petersburg VFW and DAV organizations accompanied by the Jr. ROTC of Petersburg High School.

Verlie Don Calhoun, 88, of Upper Tract, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at the Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Calhoun was born Mach 25, 1913, in Brushy Run and was a son of the late Martin Dow Calhoun and Rachel Ann (Graham) Calhoun.

He was a lifelong farmer and worked 15 years for O.H. Berg Produce in Upper Tract. He was a member of the Mount Horeb United Methodist Church, where he was a lifelong Trustee and Sunday School superintendent for several years.

On September 13, 1935, he married Arbelia G. Armentrout, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 66 years is a son, Reginald Calhoun of Brandywine; one daughter, Lucille Farmer, Gladsden, AL; three sisters, Lillian Miller, Harrisonburg, VA, Eddie Kate Alt, Landes, and Bessie Hevener of Mount Crawford, VA; three brothers, Curtis Calhoun, a resident of Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, Quentin Calhoun and Olin Calhoun, both of Upper Tract; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Gary Phillips conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Horeb United Methodist Church in Mozer. Burial followed at the Kline Cemetery, Kline.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Horeb United Methodist Church.

Brenda Lee (Ketterman) Campbell, 44, of Grottoes, Va., and formerly of Maysville, died Nov. 25, 2000 at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville, Va., after a battle with cancer.

Born Nov. 22, 1956, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of Virgil Ketterman and Sara Katherine (Ayers) Ketterman of Maysville.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her husband, Jerry Campbell, whom she married Feb. 26, 1973 and remarried July 10, 1981; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Fitzgerald of Waynesboro, Va.; two brothers, Steve Ketterman and Gary Ketterman, both of Maysville; three sisters, Betty Mongold of Dorcas and Sara Wimer and Phyllis Laub, both of Maysville; one granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Born Aug. 29, 1923, in Miletus, she was the daughter of the late Ernest F. and Dessie (Cumpston) Casey. She married Walter A. Underwood, March 7, 1942, who preceded her in death, Jan. 13, 1964. She later married Clement H. Clower, former Petersburg resident and teacher at Petersburg High School, who survives.

Funeral services were Oct. 6, at the Salem United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Greathouse Funeral Home, Salem.

She was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, two sisters and one brother.

Born July 18, 1940, in Lebanon, PA, he was the son of the late John H. and Hattie M. (Whetzel) Caplinger.  He was also preceded in death my one sister, Daisy Hibsman and one brother, Conway Caplinger,

Mr. Caplinger retired from the city of Moorefield after 15 years of service.  He was a member of Rough Run Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by his wife, Doris V. (Walton) Caplinger; two sons, Fred A. Caplinger Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Dale H. Caplinger of Arthur; two daughters, Janet L. Bensenhaver and Fay C. Caplinger, both of Petersburg; two sisters, Shirley Moyers and Darlene Brunelle, both of Dorcas; and three grandchildren, Jessica Bensenhaver, Dale H. Caplinger Jr. and Sarah Ann Caplinger.

Hester A. Clayton, 82 of Pueblo, Colorado, and formerly of Old Fields, died Wednesday, January 01, 1997 in Colorado.

Born August 13, 1914 at Martin in Grant County, she was the daughter of the late John and Martha (O’Brien) George.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, warren A. Clayton Sr., April 17, 1987; one son, Dwight Randall; and one granddaughter, Cindy Clayton.

Mrs. Clayton was an active member of the Rocky Mountain Family Church in Colorado, volunteered for the Women’s Pregnancy Center in Pueblo and Canon City, Colorado.  She was an active member in women’s groups and was an usher for senior citizens groups.

Surviving are one son, Warren Clayton jr. of Grant Junction, Colorado; three daughters, LaVerne Callendar of Baltimore, Maryland, Carol Waldenmeyer and Mable Henderson, both of Pueblo; two brothers, Dennis George of Rig and Ezra George of Keyser, four sisters, Bessie Kootz, Ina George, Gertie Kuykendall, and Retha George, all of Moorefield; 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Born March 09, 1916 at Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Capitola (Baker) Hill.  She was also preceded in death my four brothers, Robert Hill, James Hill, Keith Hill and Ray Hill.

She was a bookkeeper/clerk from 1848-1980 for Southern States Cooperative, Petersburg. She was a member of Rebekah Homemakers Club, charter member Burlington Children’s Home Auxiliary, Methodist Women and choir and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter Ann C. Day of Summerland Key, Florida; three sisters, Catherine hill of Petersburg, Jean Combs of Moorefield, Jo Anne Mowery of Upper tract; two grandchildren; Johanna Leigh Hayes of Wilmington, Delaware and John Michael Day of Denver, Colorado; and two great-grandchildren; Shannon Elizabeth Hays and Quinn Decland both of Wilmington.

Funeral services were Monday morning, at the Main Street United Methodist Church, Petersburg, with the Rev. John Wildman, officiating.  Interment was in the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Basagic Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Memorials may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church or Grant County Nursing Home.

David Presley Casto, 87, of Petersburg died Thursday, November 12, 1998 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg 

Born June 20, 1911, in Clarksburg, he was the son of the late Albert Annias and Elizabeth Virginia (Metheny) Casto.  He was twice married and preceded in death my Eltie Catherine (Shockey) Casto, November 22, 1975, and Mernie (Ayers) Casto, October 05, 1989.  He was also preceded in death by four brothers, twin brother, Doc James Casto, Bernard Casto, Raymond Casto and Clarence Casto; and two sisters, Lillie Mayfield and Beatrice Casto.

Mr. Casto was a press operator at Raygold in Moorefield for several years.

He is survived by one son, David Junior Casto, Petersburg; one brother, Robert Casto of California; three sisters, Mary Evelyn White of Butler, PA, Maggie Belle Bible of Onego, and Madeline M. Gregg of Wolfe Summit; one stepson, Marin Kesner, Petersburg; four stepdaughters, Carole Breen of Petersburg, Mary Lee Ours of Moorefield, Betty Silgero of Broadway, Virginia and Anna Mae Grimes of Leesburg, Virginia; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday afternoon in the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Ernest Pennington and Craig Howard officiating.  Interment was in the Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield.

Mrs. Olive E. Clayton, 87, formerly of Keyser, died Tuesday September 21, 1965 at Park Hill Convalescent Home, Baltimore, Maryland.

Born at Maysville, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah (Veach) Keplinger; her husband, Floyd Clayton, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, warren A. and Woodrow S. Clayton, both of Baltimore, Maryland; two daughters, Mrs. Arbutus e. Hinkle of Moorefield and Mrs. Lorraine Leatherman of Cumberland; four sisters, Mrs. Cora Hott and Miss Margaret Keplinger, both of Keyser, and Mrs. Ell feaster and Miss Mabel Keplinger of Burlington; two brothers; Guy Keplinger of Antioch and Earl Keplinger of Cumberland, Maryland.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday January 07 at the Durst Funeral Home chapel. Oakland, with the Rev. Harold Harman officiating.  Interment was in the Cosner Cemetery at Mt. Storm.

Anna Merle Keplinger Cook, 72, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at the Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Cook was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Lahmansville, W.Va., and was a daughter of the late Clarence Preston Keplinger and Cora Emily Dettinburn Keplinger.
Her husband, Orville E. Cook, preceded her in death Aug. 24, 1984.
Survivors include six sons, Ronald E. "Bleach" Cook and O. Brad Cook, both of Petersburg, Doug R. Cook, Brent E. Cook and Mark T. Cook, all of Arthur, W.Va., and Barry A. "Clyde" Cook of Cabins, W.Va.; six daughters, Barbara J. Clark and Carol F. Swick, both of Maysville, W.Va., Marlene D. Nelson of Cabins, W.Va., Tonia K. Crites of Rig, W.Va., and Jodie M. McDonald and Holly J. Cook, both of Petersburg; a sister, Viola Mace of Petersburg; 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Stephen B. Landis will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. today at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial will be at the Kline Cemetery, Kline, W.Va.

Thomas D. Clark, 60, of Maysville, WV, died Friday, Nov. 16, 1984 at Grant Memorial Hospital.

Born in Bayard July 17, 1915, he was the son of Ulysses Grant Clark and Lenora McDonald, both deceased and the husband of Opal Mallow Clark who preceded him in death.

Mr. Clark was a retired employee of Alleghany Mining Co.

Surviving are six brothers, Wayne U Clark, Upper Tract; Joseph L. Clark, Allen B. Clark, Vernon L. Clark, Maysville; Paul T. Clark, Lahmansville; Lysle R. Clark, Williamsport; five daughters, Nancy Alt, Lahmansville; Dorothy Kimble, Upper Tract; Janet Whetzel and Elaine Rohrbaugh, Petersburg; Norma Hott, Arthur; one nephew, Kenneth Clark, Greenbelt, Md.; nineteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Four brothers preceded him in death.

Services were conducted at the Schaeffer Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Stanley Kile on Monday. Interment was in the Maysville Cemetery.

Mrs. Genevieve (Hogbin) Crawford, 66, of Virginia Beach, Va., and a former Petersburg resident, died Sunday, October 10 at General Hospital, Virginia Beach.

She was born in Petersburg August 10, 1915 and was a daughter of the late James E. and Sadie (Pratt) Hogbin.

Mrs. Crawford was a retired civil service employee of the Fleet Accounting and Disbursing Center, Naval Air Station, where she had been employed for thirty years. She was a member of Rock Church in Virginia Beach.

Surviving are her husband, Robert F. Crawford, Sr., Virginia Beach; one son, Robert F. Crawford, Jr., Roanoke, Va.; two daughters, Jacquelyn C. Dilday and Pamela C. Muse, both of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Kay Nimmo, Norfolk, and Mrs. Charlene Jackson, Chesterfield, Va.; four brothers, Carl Hogbin, Petersburg, Brook Hogbin, Williamsport, Pa., Boyd Hogbin, Midkiff, WV., and Eugene Hogbin, Norfolk, Va.

Services were conducted Wednesday, October 14 at Rock Church followed by interment in Virginia Beach Memorial Park.

Arrangements were in charge of the H. D. Oliver Funeral Home.

Weatherholtz, Winchester, Va., Mrs. Dixie Mauzy, Springfield, Va.; five brothers, Elvin Riggleman and Junior Riggleman, both of Petersburg, Calvin Riggleman, Rig, Forrest Riggleman, Springfield, Va., Glenn Riggleman, Westernport; three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Service were conducted Tuesday at the Scheaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Petersburg by the Rev. John Goldizen. Interment was in Newhouse Cemetery, Rig.

Born July 23, 1902 in Grant County, she was a daughter of the late John G. Bergdoll and Susan (Hedrick) Bergdoll. She was preceded in death by two husbands, William McKinley Crites, 1934 and Noah Martin Crites, 1950; two brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Crites was a member of the Baker Chapel United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Calvin D. Crites, Moorefield, Ralph W. Crites, Hanover, Pa., Eston L Crites, Keyser; one daughter, Arvella Grose, Bluewell; four brothers, Emory E. Bergdoll, Augusta, Denver J. Bergdoll, Fisher, Arlie E. Bergdoll and Marvin Bergdoll, both of Dorcas; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel Saturday morning by Pastor A. C. Agnew, Sr., and the Rev. Lewis Paugh. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Funeral services are being held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in Chambers Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Laurean R. Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Crites Cemetery, Rig.

A funeral service was held Thursday at the Loy Funeral Home Chapel, Wardensville, with the Rev. Robert Necomer and the Rev. Eileen Schneider officiating. Burial was in the Wardensville Cemetery.

Crites was born in Grant County, May 17, 1899, son of the late Daniel and Hannah Sites Crites. He was a member of the Wardensville Faith Mission Church. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Clara Coffman Crites.

Surviving are a stepson Lester Coffman of Wardensville; a sister, Ethel Hedrick of Petersburg; and three step-grandchildren.

James Melvin Crites, Sr., 70, Petersburg, died at the Winchester, Va., Medical Center.

Mr. Crites was amember of the board of directors of the Tri-County Fair Association and was the vice-president of the Golden K Club of the Petersburg Kiwanis Club.

He worked out of Teamsters Local 557 for 33 years before his retirement, and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and Petersburg Lodge 408, Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Born in Grant County August 11, 1915, he was a son of the late George E. Crites and Edith (Ours) Crites.

His death came on the 49th anniversary of his marriage to the former Hazel May Simmons, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, James M. Crites, Jr., Hedgeville; two daughters, Mrs. Donna Jean Reel, Grafton and Mrs. Betty Lou Cooper, Petersburg, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Daisy Fries, Martinsburg; a half-sister, Mrs. Elsie Whitmer, Petersburg; one brother, Paul Crites, Petersburg; a half-brother, Roscoe Crites, Petersburg and seven grandchildren.

Services were conducted at the Schaeffer Funeral Home Chapel Sunday afternoon by the Rev. Richard Longbon. Interment was in South Branch Memorial Gardens.

The Odd Fellows held a memorial service on Saturday evening at the funeral home chapel. Members of the Golden K Club served as pallbearers.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Elbridge Calhoun; and two sisters, Mabel Calhoun and Vernie Riggleman.

Mr. Calhoun was a lifelong farmer in Pendleton County. He was a member of the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, Mozer.

Surviving are his wife, Nellie M. (Armentrout) Calhoun, whom he married October 30, 1937; five sons, Jackie D. Calhoun, La Plate, MD, Gary C. Calhoun, Mt. Crawford, VA, Lynwood Calhoun, Styrl A. Calhoun, Tony G. Calhoun, all of Upper Tract; four daughters, Patricia Ann Harman, Harrisonburg, VA, Carolyn M. Hammer, Franklin, Noreen F. Alt, Petersburg, and Judith E. Whetzel, Upper Tract; three sisters, Lillian Miller, Upper Tract, Kate Alt, Petersburg, and Bessie Hevener, Mt. Crawford; five brothers, Scott Calhoun, Harrisonburg, Curtis Calhoun, Petersburg, Olin Calhoun, Don Calhoun and Quinten Calhoung, all of Upper Tract; 17 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday morning at the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Dempsey and Pastor Glen Hamric officiating. Interment was in the Kline Cemetery at Kline.

Edgar Holmes Coberly, 91, of Lancaster, PA, died Thursday, February 3, 1994, at Village Vista Skilled Nursing Facility, Lancaster, after a long illness.

Born in Alpena, he was the son of the late Lee and Katherine Woodford Coberly. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Effie O. (Renick) Coberly.

Mr. Coberly had lived in Winchester, VA, before moving to Lancaster in 1981. A retired high school principal, he taught math and science at Petersburg High School and Berkeley Springs High School. He was a 1925 graduate of Davis and Elkins College, and he earned his master’s degree from Ohio State University in 1930.

A member of the Presbyterian Church in Winchester, he formerly served as an elder. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Marlinton and the American Association of Retired Teachers; was a former member of the Kiwanis Club in Berkeley Springs; and a former member and past president of the Lions Club in Berkeley Springs.

He is survived by a daughter, Leora K., wife of Edgar C. Fearnow, Lancaster; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Roscoe C. Collins, 75, of Moorefield, died Wednesday, August 21, 1991, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg, following a brief illness.

Born December 8, 1915, in Sparta, NC, he was the son of the late Porter C. and Nannie (Billings) Collins.

His wife, Helen (Bowman) Collins, died in July 1985.

A long-time resident of the Moorefield area, Mr. Collins was an auctioneer. He was a member of the Moorefield Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Vance, Colonial Heights, VA, Bonnie Wilson, Petersburg, Judy Boor, Williamsburg, VA and Peggy Hawse, Moorefield; one brother, William M. Collins, Norfolk, VA and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield, by the Rev. Bruce MacBeth. Interment was in the Olivet Cemetery.

Frona M. Cosner, 86, of Mt. Storm, died Monday, February 14, 1994, at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born January 29, 1908, at Bismarck, she was the daughter of the late Summers W. and Virginia Rebecca (Aronhalt) Cosner.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Xyth Cosner, December 24, 1983; four brothers, Harry Cosner, Frank Cosner, Ezra Cosner and Newton Cosner; an infant sister; and four sisters, Maude Hanlin, Stella Cosner, Ruth Cosner and Ollie Rinker, who died December 29, 1993.

She had been a resident of Heartland of Keyser since December 1993. She was a member of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, Bismarck.

She is survived by two sisters, Vera Cosner of Mt. Storm and Mernie McDowell, Rawlings, MD; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, with the Rev. John Walker officiating. Interment was in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Bismarck.

Born January 7, 1916, in Mt. Storm, he was the son of the late Martin and Betty (Moreland) Cosner.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dora (Borror) Cosner, September 15, 1966; and one brother, Luther Cosner.

Mr. Cosner was a member of the Jordan Run Baptist Church, Maysville. He was a retired custodian for Petersburg Elementary School. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion Post 78, Petersburg.

Surviving are his second wife, Maxine (Skaggs) Bennett Cosner; one son, Merle Cosner, Timberville, VA; three daughters, Phyllis Amos, Petersburg, Carol Rohrbaugh, Mt. Storm, and Jeanie Weimer, Baker; four stepsons, Michael Bennett, Portsmouth, Ohio, Franklin Bennett, David Bennett and Jimmy Bennett, all of Maysville; four stepdaughters, Rose Mary Bennett, Eugene, Ore., Dinah Estep, Orange Beach, Fla., Judy Broyes, Gerrardstown, and Nola Lawrence, Petersburg; one sister, Dorothy Kesner, Keyser; one brother, Alfred Cosner, Mt.
