Twila May Dove, 71, of Augusta, died Friday, March 9, 2001 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.

Born Dec. 16, 1929 at Bayard, WV, Grant County she was the daughter of the late James A. Michael and Violet V. Cosner Michael. She was also preceded in by her husband, James E. Dove on April 2, 1987, a son Lawrence E. Dove on 1984 and one great granddaughter, Tiffany Shingleton.

Mrs. Dove was a retired cook and aide at the Clary Street Learning Center, Keyser. She was a member of the Knobley Church of the Brethren.

She is survived by three sons, Ronald Dove, California, Kenneth Dove, Martinsburg, and Raymond Dove, Fairfield, Pa.; two daughters, Violet Johnson, Hampton, Va. and Patricia Sirk, Augusta; three brothers, William Michael, Florida, James Michael, Antioch, and Richard Michael, Kearnesville; four sisters, Glendora James, North Carolina, Alice Frazer, North Carolina, Jean Bodiford, West Virginia, and Carol Michael, Clarkdale, Ariz., 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Friends were received Sunday at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney with Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating.
Interment will be in the Headsville Cemetery, Headsville.

James Carl "Jim" Dolan, 77 of HC Box 121, Martin, WV, Grant County, entered into eternal rest with his Heavenly Father on Monday, May 07, 2001 at his residence.

Born on June 03, 1923 in Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late Thomas H. and Agnes M. (Cartwright) Dolan. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, John Dolan and Bob Dolan; two sisters, Ruth Boggs and Mary Morrison.

Mr. Dolan retired from the Kelley Springfield Tire Company on January 1, 1981 with 36 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the U. S.S. Archerfish as Torpedoman’s Mate Second Class. A 1941 graduate of Keyser High School, he was a member of the Knobley Church of the Brethren, Martin. A devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Jim will be lovingly remembered and missed by many.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Arlene (Smith) Dolan; two sons, Robert Miller and wife Tammy, of Chesapeake, VA and Rodney Miller and wife Louise of Belfry, KY, three daughters, April Dolan at home, Rose Anna (Miller) Osborne and husband, Kenny of Marion, VA, and Robin (Miller) Ziesermer and husband, Kirk, of Moline, IL; seven grandchildren; Michael, Joshua, and Joseph Elliot; Christopher, Tina and Jennifer Osborne, and William Miller, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends will call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Knobley Church of the Brethren, Martin, on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating.

Glenviol O’del "Windy" Davis, 71 of Keyser, died Wednesday, April 23, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

Born May 31, 1925 at Greenland, WV, Grant County, he was the son of the late Joseph and Susan Davis. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family

Mr. Davis was a long-time diesel mechanic and truck driver. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and was a life member of Post #91, American Legion, Romney: Post #1101, VFW, Romney and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Violet M. (Leatherman) Davis; two daughters, Elsie M. Davis, at home and Martha "Marty" Evans, Keyser: four grandchildren, Marsha Ellifritz New Creek, Malissia Evans, Mary Evans and Philip Evans, of Keyser; two great-grandchildren, Cindy Ellifritz and Robbie Ellifritz; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were Sunday Afternoon at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Jack Sanders officiating. Interment was in Davis Cemetery, Antioch, WV where graveside military honors were accorded.

Ellis M. "Junior"Doll, 73, of HC 75, Box 145-B, New Creek, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.

Born on Nov. 15, 1925, at Keyser, he was a son of the late Ellis M. Doll Sr. and the late Nellie J. (Leatherman) Doll.

Mr. Doll was the retired owner and operator of Doll's Snack Bar in New Creek. He also was the former owner of Keyprint and Proprint Printing Companies in Keyser and the Country Cable Company, which provided cable television service to the Claysville and Antioch areas.

Mr. Doll was a member of the Knobley Church of the Brethren, the Men's Fellowship of the church, and the Mineral County Right to Life.

Surviving are his wife, Linda A. (Ellifritz) Doll; and three sons, Melvin Doll, Charles Doll and James Doll, all at home.

Friends may call at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Knobley Church of the Brethren on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Roger Leatherman officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in the Thrush Cemetery, Antioch.

Emory Dale Dolly, 62, Cabins, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

Mr. Dolly was born March 12, 1938, in Pendleton County, and was a son of the late Henson R. and Rhoda M. Moyers Dolly.

He was employed by Pierce-Conagra in Moorefield and attended Cabins Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Annabell Reed Dolly; a son, Donald D. Dolly, Petersburg; a daughter, Diana M. Kelley, Larksput, CO; three sisters, Elsie Mauzy, Cabins, Emily Weatherholtz, Lahmansville, and Brenda Dolly, Caldwell; a brother, Elvin Dolly, Old Fiends; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Esta M. Dolly.

The Revs. Stephen B. Landis and Charles "Dusty" Twigg conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Dec. 26 at Cabins Assembly of God Church. Burial was at Riggleman Cemetery in Cabins.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg.

Lester Davis, 58, Wardesnville, and formerly of Seneca Rocks, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, VA.

Mr. Davis was born Aug. 24, 1942, in Onego and was a son of the late Elmer and Iva Mae Harper Davis.

He had been employed at the L.E. Myers Company in Rural Hall, NC, and the Richardson and Wayland Electrical Company in Roanoke, VA.

He is survived by three sons, Leslie Davis, Frederick, MD, and Lester Davis II, , Ryan Davis, both of Baker; three daughters, Lisa Killen, Frederick, MD, Rachel Tharp, Wardensville, VA, and Crystal Dove, Baker; a sister, Ruth Conrad, Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg; two brothers, Earl Davis, Littlestown, PA, and Roy Davis, Petersburg; and five grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Hedrick.

The Rev. Glenden Berg conducted the funeral at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg. Burial was at the Waybright-Davis family cemetery in Onego.

Rhoda Mae (Moyers) Dolly, 82, of Cabins, died Saturday, December 06, 1997 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born October 27, 1915, at Cabins, she was the daughter of the late Alfred V. and Laura (Goldizen) Moyers.  She was preceded in death my her husband, Henson R. Dolly, who died June 30, 1985; one daughter, Esta Mae Dolly; one brother, John F. Moyers; eight sisters, infants Beulah and Zera Moyers, Sarah Wolford, Stella Ray, Ellie Staffer, Nellie Rohrbaugh, Arbutus Evans and Dorothy VanMeter; and three great granddaughters, Brittany and Bethany Mauzy and Jacqueline Weatherholtz.

Mrs. Dolly was a member of the Petersburg Church of God.

She is survived by two sons, Emory D. Dolly of Cabins and Elvin J. Dolly of Old Fields; three daughters, Emily V. Weatherholtz of Lahmansville, Elsie A. Mauzy of Cabins, and Brenda S. Dolly of Caldwell; two brothers, Lonnie Moyers of Elkins and Tommie Moyers of Maysville; three sisters, Effie Wolford and Angie Hatcher, both of Petersburg and Orpha Staffer of Maysville; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services are today (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. at Petersburg Church of God, with the Revs. Ernest C. Pennington and Steve Landis officiating.  Interment will be in Riggleman Cemetery, Cabins.

Memorials may be made to Petersburg Church of God or any church of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

Ralph H. Davis of Mt. Storm, age 66, passed away at Grant Memorial Hospital on December 20, 1976. 

Born in Grant County on March 14, 1910, he was the son of the late Howard J. and Kathryn (Schell) Davis and was a retired Miner.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Shelby Junkins of Mt. Storm and Mrs. Ruth Lamsberry of Painesville, Ohio/ two sons, Dale H. Davis of Gorman, Maryland and Richard E. Davis of Menton, Ohio, one sister, Mrs. Clara Wilson of Westernport, Maryland and 12 grandchildren.

Last rites were held at the Calvary Temple at Mt. Storm on Thursday, December 23rd with the Rev. Wesley Georg officiating.  Interment was in the Lahmansville Cemetery.

Otha Allan Davis, 78, Maysville, died Thursday May 18, 1966 at his residence.

A lifelong resident of Grant County, he was a son of the late James and Arlena (Schell) Davis.

He is survived by his wife, Lula (Veach) Davis, a daughter, Mrs. Carl Hogbin, here, a son, Gerald Davis, Maysville, a sister, Mrs. Nellie Norwood, Maysville, a brother, Thomas Davis, Elkins, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

S service was conducted Saturday afternoon.  Rev. Harding Nelson officiated and interment was in Lahmansville Cemetery.

Mrs. Edith Pearl Davis, 79, of Maysville, died Saturday at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, following a brief illness.

Born in Maysville, she was a daughter of the late David Wesley and Elizabeth (Feaster) McDonald, and was the widow of Wilbur J. Davis.

Surviving are three sons, Fred Davis, New Creek, Coolidge Davis, Columbus, Ohio and Donald Davis, Piedmont; three sisters, Mrs. Willa Rohrbaugh, here Mrs. Rose Jones, Short Gap and Mrs. Mary Lyon, Hazel Park, Michigan, two brothers, Gordon McDonald, Berkley, Michigan and Ted McDonald, Maysville, 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A service was conducted at the Maysville gospel Tabernacle Tuesday afternoon.  Rev. Lowell R. Rogers officiated and burial was in Maysville Cemetery.  Arrangements were in charge of the Schaeffer Funeral Home.

Mrs. Celia Dixon of Bayard dies
Burial for 68 year old lady made at Elk Garden
Mrs. Celia May Dixon, aged 68 and widow of the late Payton Dixon of Bayard died in Potomac Valley Hospital at Keyser January 2, 1944, following an attack of pneumonia.

Survivors are listed, members of the Bayard Methodist church, the deceased was a daughter of the late John L. and Mary Wilkins Kitzmiller of Hartmonsville and was born October 28, 1875.

Survived by one son, Garrett Dixon of Bayard, one daughter Mrs. Ethel Boltz of Gormania, one sister, Mrs. Dephia Likens of Mt. Storm, funeral services were held January 5th from the Bayard Methodist Church with Rev. R. S. Simpson officiating and burial in Nethken Hill Cemetery at Elk Garden.

Martin Enoch Dolly, son of the late John and Elmira Dolly a well-known and highly respected citizen of Maysville died after an illness of about ten months on March 16, 1950, at the age of 78 years 6 months and 5 days.  He was born in Pendleton County September 11, 1871.

He had been a member of good standing for a long time in the Evangelical United Brethren Church and was always ready to do anything that he could for the Kingdom of God.  He showed his love for Christ by doing good to all that come his way.

He was married to Miss Effy Jane Rohrbaugh December 8, 1908, to this union was born four sons, Loy Dolly, Burlington, WV, Cletus Dolly and Denver dolly of Maysville, one son Emory preceded him in death.  He leaves behind his wife, 3 sons, 1 brother, Yagga Dolly of Falls, 9 grandchildren and a host of friends.  The funeral was conducted by his pastor in the Otterbein church, March 19 and his body laid to rest in Maysville Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all friends and neighbors that helped aid in any way during the illness and death of their love one.

Omar Henry Davis Sr, 52 of Keyser Avenue run off the roadway while traveling alone, according to the Moorefield-Petersburg Detachment, West Virginia State Police.


Mr. Davis was the operator of Davis Plumbing and Heating at Petersburg.

Born August 29, 1925,at Plant, he was a son of Flossie (Clayton) Davis, Frank, and Late O. E. Davis.

Mr. Davis was a plumber and a Navy veteran.

Besides his mother, surviving are his widow, Virginia Jane (Scott) Davis, of here, four step-daught4ers, Miss Delores White, Fisher, Miss Margaret White, Franklin, Miss Carolyn White and Miss Barbara White both of here; three sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Morris, Lancaster, PA, Mrs. Virginia Townsend and Miss Bertha Davis, both of Frank; three brothers, Delton Davis, Ravenna, Ohio, James Davis, Franklin and Frederick Davis, Baltimore and four grandchildren.

Services were conducted Monday in the Hinkle Funeral Home at   Davis.  Rev. John Baba officiated and interment was in Davis Cemetery.

James Edward Dorsey, 70, of Crest View Drive, Romney, WV died Saturday February 03, 1996, at the Winchester Medical Center, Virginia.

Born February 26, 1925, in Keyser, WV he was the son of the late James T. and Inez J. (Ferrebee) Dorsey.

Mr. Dorsey was a retired district highway engineer for the West Virginia University School of Forestry.

He was a member of our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Romney, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.   
Surviving is his wife, Naomi J. (Purgitt) Dorsey, two sons, James E. Dorsey II and wife Sheila, of Clarksburg, WV and Brian Mark Dorsey and wife Jeanne, of Marietta , GA, two daughters, Kelly E. Shaw and husband Robert, and Juliana I. Coe and husband Robert, all of Clarksburg, one brother, Marion L. Dorsey, of Keyser, one sister, Margaret M. Stanislawczyk, Keyser, seven grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be offered at the Church of the Assumption, Keyser at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 7 with Father Joseph Salizar, M.Ss.A officiating.

Interment will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery, Keyser.  Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p, m. Tuesday at the Markwood-McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser.  Rosary prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Amos Clarence  Evans, 87, of Scherr, died Friday August 12, 1966 at Grant Memorial Hospital, after a lingering Illness.

Born in Grant County, he was a son of the late Saul and Hattie (Bosley) Evans.  His wife, Hattie (Burgess) Evans preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons, Floyd Evans Scherr, and Arlie Evans, Beryl, three sisters, Justina Schell, Maysville, Mrs. Essie Martin, Petersburg, and Mrs. Bertha Amtower, New Creek, a brother, Burton Evans, Keyser, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

A service was conducted Sunday afternoon at Schaeffer’s Funeral Home, Rev. Herman Turner officiated and interment was in Maysville cemetery.

Leora Riggleman Davis, 73, of Winchester, Va., died December 29, 1986 at the Winchester Medical Center.

Born April 21, 1913, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of Elmer and Martha Alice (Helmick) Landis. She was married to Virgil Davis on October 13, 1950.

Survivng with her husband are four sons, Junior D. Riggleman and Denver L. Riggleman, both of Petersburg; Oscar E. Riggleman of Haymarket, Virginia, and Elmer L Riggleman of Winchester, Va.; two daughters, Martha Alice Sites of Capon Bridge and Mary Ann Williams of Lovettsville, Va; one brother, Adam Landis of Purgitsville; four sisters, Edna Kimble of Arthur; Nellie Aronholt, Mable Patton and Bertha Welch all of Winchester; 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Rigglemen; one brother, Amby Landis and one sister, Virgie Kimble.

A funeral service will be held today, Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the Jones Funeral Home in Winchester, with the Rev. Anthony P. Wadsworth officiating.

Burial will be in the Gainsboro Cemetery, Virginia.

Pallbearers will by James Sites, David Sites, Brian Sites, William Riggleman, Mark Riggleman and Oscar Riggleman.

Mrs. Freeda Catherine Davis, 81, Cumberland, Maryland, died Thursday, October 21, 1993 at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.

Born March 11, 1912 in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Jacob “Jake’ and Frances “Fannie” (Patch) Lahman.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles “chink’ Davis, in 1985; one step son, Paul Davis; and two brothers, Howard Lahman and Ladd Lahman. 

Mrs. Davis was employed as an inspector for Swift Company, Cumberland.  She was a member of Melvin United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the ladies group.

Surviving are one stepdaughter, Lois Reynolds and husband Roger, Cumberland; one brother, Arnold Lahman, Petersburg; one sister, Ada McDonald, Petersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald G. Hurd officiating.  Interment was in the Hillcrest Burial Park.
