Edna A (Rexrode) Turner, age 83, of Petersburg, died Friday, Aug 14, 1988, at her residence.
   Born Aug 26, 1914, in Maysville, she was the daughter of the late Bertrude E Rexrode and Charlotte "Lottie" (Burgess) Rexrode.  Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were two brothers; and three sisters.
   Mrs Turner was Brethren by faith.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, John Woodrow Turner.  They were married on Feb 3, 1934.  Also surviving are two sons, Jerry D Turner, Herndon, Va; Ronald D Turner, Gambrills, Md; one sister, Beulah Forte, Maysville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
   Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
   Services will be conducted in the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev Steve Raines officiating.
  Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Grant Memorial Hospice.

John E. Thorn, 82, RD 1 Burlington, died yesterday July 09, 1978 at Potomac Valley Hospital.
Born at Petersburg August 02, 1895, he was a son of the late Jacob and Hannah (Wratchford) Thorn.
He was a veteran of World War II.
Mr. Thorn was a member of the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren where he was a life deacon.
Surviving are his widow, Eula (Stewart) Thorn; three sons, Henry Thorn and Ernest Thorn of Burlington and Otis Thorn of Rig; seven daughters, Mrs. Ada Ditton of Waynesboro, Virginia, Mrs. Idella Barr of Rig, Mrs. Viola McAvoy of Burlington, Mrs. Mary Lea Leatherman, Mrs. Goldie Haggerty and Mrs. Shirley Cathell of Keyser and Mrs. Gladys Dodds of Fulks Run, VA; four brothers, Van Thorn of Maysville, Earl Thorn and Glenn Thorn of Petersburg and Harvey Thorn of Gettsyburg, Pa; two sisters, Mrs. Vernice Vance and Mrs. Elizabeth Mauzy of Petersburg; 32 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Rotruck Funeral Home.

The body will be taken at noon Wednesday to the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren to lie in state until services at 2 p.m. by Revs. Herman Baliles and Sam Goldizen; interment will be in Lahmansville, Cemetery.

Mrs. Anna Lee Travis, 72, of Terra Alta, and formerly of Maysville, died March 13, 2002  at the Cumberland Nursing Home, Cumberland, Md.

Born Dec. 30, 1929, at Westernport, Md., she was the daughter of the late John and Iva (Rizer) Urban.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, the Rev. Luther E. Travis Sr.; three sons, Harley Lee Travis of Montpelier, Va., Robert Travis of Terra Alta and Earl Travis of Paw Paw; one sister, Marie DiCesare of McCoole, Md. and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were March 17, at the Falls Assembly of God Church, with interment in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser chapel.

Keith Lowell Taylor, 66, of Romney, and formerly of Petersburg, died Dec. 20, 2001  at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.

Born Sept. 29, 1935, in Petersburg, he was the son of the late John and Hortense (Plauger) Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lucy (Smith) Taylor. They were married Dec. 23, 1955. He is also survived by one daughter, Denise (Taylor) Turner and husband, Ken, of Denton, Md. and two grandchildren, Kyle Turner and Kara Turner of Denton.

Funeral services were Dec. 22, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with interment in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg.

Mrs. Mary (Harman) Teter, 89, of Seneca Rocks, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001  at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born Feb. 18, 1912, at Laneville, she was the daughter of the late Asa Harman Jr. and Elizabeth (Ketterman) Harman.

She is survived by her husband, Guy Teter, whom she married July 11, 1947; two daughters, Mary Jo Heier of State College, Pa., and Patricia Ann Long of Elkins; one son, Ronald A. Teter of Seneca Rocks; one sister, Ova Wellman of Huntington; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 15, at the Harman Church of the Brethren, with interment in Harman Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Kimble Funeral Home, Franklin.

Mrs. Eula Adaline (Cleaver) Thorne, 80, of Petersburg, died Oct. 2, 2001  at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, where she had resided since Feb. 27, 1998.

Born Aug. 28, 1921, in Rough Run, she was the daughter of the late George Thompson and Bessie (Wilkins) Cleaver. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Thorne, Oct. 8, 1975.

She is survived by one daughter, Eulajean "Jean" Sites of Moorefield; two sons, Edward T. Thorne of Dorcas, and Kenneth R. Thorne of Petersburg; two sisters, Faye Meager of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mernie Secreti of Interlachen, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Oct. 9, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with interment in Sites-Cleaver Cemetery, Rough Run

John Grove Turner, 82, of Petersburg, died Oct. 6,  2001 at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.

Born Aug. 19, 1919, in Arthur, he was the son of the late Elmer and Katie R. (Baldwin) Turner.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Aretta M. (Veach) Turner; one son, Roger C. Turner of Hagerstown, Md.; one daughter, Bernadette Major of York, Pa.; his stepmother, Edith L. (Pratt) Turner Woerner of Moorefield; one half sister, Mary Alice Hyre of Moorefield; four grandchildren, Bradley Burke of Windsor, Pa., Brian Burke of York, Tanya Turner of Slippery Rock, Pa. and Adam Turner of Lancaster, Pa.; and seven great-grandchildren.

At his request, his body has been cremated.

Memorial mass was Oct. 9, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Petersburg. Military rites were performed by combined veterans' organizations of Grant County. Interment was in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg.

The Rev. Charles S. Thompson Jr., 76, of Barboursville, died Sept. 21, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington.

Born May 15, 1925, in Mountain Lake Park, Md., he was the son of the late Charles S. and Effie (Schaeffer) Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, Alma Lou (Jeffers) Thompson, whom he married May 31, 1950, who had been his faithful companion 51 years; one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Jeffers "Jeff" and Kathy Thompson of Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, Bryan Edmond and Jordan Thompson; and several cousins including J. Blaine Schaeffer and Mary Elizabeth Shobe, both of Petersburg, and Hilda Steyer of Upland, Ind.

Service of Celebration was Sept. 23, at Forrest Burdette U.M. Church, Hurricane. Interment was Sept. 24, at Mount Storm Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Henson Funeral Home, Barboursville.

Mrs. Carrie Evelyn (Borror) Thorn, 88, of, died Aug. 15, 2001  at her home.

Born Feb. 2, 1913, in Landes, she was the daughter of the late George and Daisy Virginia (Sites) Borror.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Evers C. Thorn; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Christian and Shelby and Carl Stump, all of Moorefield, Jean and B.F. Bean of Verona, Va., Nancy and Denton Wolford of Dorcas, Norma and Dave Fulk of Fulks Run, Va., Linda and Jim Wilt of Bergton, Va., Midge and Jesse Kester of Stanton, Va.; two sisters, Nellie Turner of Petersburg, and Hazel Whetzel of Stafford, Va.; 24 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Aug. 18, at the Schaffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with interment in Newhouse Cemetery, Rig.

Born Oct. 12, 1917, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Bessie Mae (Ours) Turner.

She is survived by one brother, Ralph Turner of Roanoke, Va.; one sister, Nellie Smith of Upper Tract; two half brothers, Paul Turner of Petersburg and Evers Turner of Upper Tract; six half sisters, Eleanor Thompson of Upper Tract, Virginia Pancake of Romney, Ruth Simmons of North Carolina, Rebecca Miller, Catherine VanMeter and Melva Cornett, all of Petersburg; one nephew, J. Bruce Smith of Franklin, whom she raised; and two nieces, Macie Dahmer of St. Albans and Mary Hedrick of Franklin.

Funeral services were Aug. 15, at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, with interment in Cherry Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklln.

Boyd E. Teter, 87, of Paw Paw, WV and formerly of Maysville, died Thursday, November 12, 1998 at Valley View Nursing home, Berkeley Springs, where he had resided since August.

Born August 13, 1911, in Maysville, he was the son of the late William Kincaid Teter and Delphia (Burgess) Teter. He was also preceded in death my his wife, Maysel (Stump) Teter, March 11, 1993; two brothers, Paul and Ivan Teter; one sister, Lona (Teter) Border, and one granddaughter, Tammy Gail Alt.

Mr. Teter was a farmer and former school bus driver in Berkeley County. He was a Dunkard Brethren by faith.

He is survived by two sons, James Keith Teter of Capon Bridge and Olin Teter of Paw Paw; two daughters, Janie Alt of Berkeley Springs and Thelma Ward of Gordonsville, Virginia; one brother, Glenn Teter of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; one sister, Helen Massey of Ridgley; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted Saturday afternoon at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, wit the Rev. Earl Travis Officiating.

Loy Ivan Teter, 82 of Elkins, died Friday, January 23, 1998, in the Davis Memorial Hospital, Davis, WV, following an extended illness.
Born December 31, 1915, at Maysville, WV, he was the son of the late William K. and Delphia (Burgess) Teter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen Evans, who died in 1958; one brother, Paul Teter, one sister Lona Border, and one grandson, Tommy Stalnaker.

Mr. Teter attended the schools of Grant County. He worked for many years as manager of the Esso Bulk plant in Elkins and following his retirement, worked at the Bowden National Fish Hatchery. He was a member of the Elkins-Randolph county Senior Center and a Protestant by faith.

He is survived by two sons, Lealden Teter of Reno, Ohio and Shirley Alan Teter of Marceline, MO; one daughter, Annabelle Stalnaker of Bowden; two brothers, Boyd Teter of Paw Paw and Glenn Teter of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; one sister, Helen Massey of Ridgeley; and six grandchildren, Timothy Stalnaker, Ricky Stalnaker, Christina Stalnaker, David Teter, Melissa Teter and Samantha Preston.

Funeral services are today Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Tomblyn Funeral Home, Elkins, with the Rev. Donald L. Lockhart officiating. Graveside services will be at noon, at Maple Hill Cemetery, Petersburg and interment will follow.

Bertha Marie Turner, 83, Upper Tract, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001 at her home.

Ms. Turner was born Oct. 12, 1917, in Petersburg and was a daughter of the late Harrison Turner and Bessie Mae Ours Turner. She was a baker and a member of Mount Horeb United Methodist Church and the Upper Tract Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary.

She is survived by a sister, Nellie Smith, Upper Tract; six half sisters, Eleanor Thompson, Upper Tract, Ruth Simmons, North Carolina, Catherine VanMeter, Rebecca Miller and Melva Cornett, all of Petersburg, and Virginia Pancake, Romney; one brother, Ralph Tuner, Roanoke, Va; two half brothers, Paul Turner, Petersburg, and Evers Turner, Upper Tract; and several nieces and nephews, including Macie Dahmer, St. Albans, and Mary Hedrick and J. Bruce Smith, both of Franklin, whom she raised.

The Revs. Gary Phillips and Glen Hamric conducted the funeral at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Horeb United Methodist church. Burial was at the Cherry Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Upper Tract fire and Rescue Squads, Mount Horeb United Methodist Church or the Upper Tract Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary.

Wilma Frances (Crowe) Thompson, 76, formerly of Petersburg, died Dec. 7, 2000 at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland, Md., where she had resided for the past 12 years.

Born Nov. 20, 1924, in Moorefield, she was the daughter of the late William Crowe and Miley (Rumers) Crowe Mongold.

She is survived by one son, Wesley A. Thompson of Moorefield; one daughter, Carol F. Ours of Dorcas; one sister, Rosalee Michael of Montrose, Colo.; two grandchildren, Misty Thompson and Danita Thompson, both of Moorefield; two great-grandchildren; and two nieces, Ann Michael of Bethesda, Md. and Elaine Turney of Montrose.

Funeral services were Dec. 9, at the Schaeffer Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with interment in the Ours family cemetery, Rough Run.

Harman Dayton Turner, 80 of Inwood and formerly of Antioch, died Monday, April 17, 1995 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Charles Town, WV.
Born October 08, 1914 at Petersburg, WV, he was the son of the late Gabriel Harrison Turner and Bessie (Ours) Turner.  He was also preceded in death my his wife, Dora T. (Hesse) Turner, March 13, 1989; an infant son, Vernon D. Turner, an infant brother, Glen Turner, and one step sister, Martha Mongold.

Mr. Turner was employed by Hercules Powder Plant, Radford, Virginia.  He was a farmer and lived at Antioch for 35 years.  he also worked at Kessel Lumber Co. at Keyser.  He was a member of the Knobley Church of the Brethren, Antioch, and attended Mountain View Church of the Brethren, Inwood, WV.  He was a resident at the Jeffersonian Manor, Charles Town, WV for the past three years.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Roger (Elsie)Grant of Kerreysville; one grandson, Capt. r. Scott Grant, U.S.A.F., Birmingham, Alabama; one great grandson, Robert D. Grant; two sisters, Bertha turner and Nellie Smith both of Upper Tract, WV; one brother, Ralph Turner of Roanoke, VA; six half sisters, Eleanor Kimble of Upper Tract, WV, Katherine VanMeter, Melva Cornette, Rebecca Miller and Virginia Duckett, all of Petersburg, and Ruth Simmons of Concord, NC, two half brothers, Evers Turner of Upper Tract and Paul Turner of Petersburg.

Funeral services were Friday afternoon at the Knobley Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Steve Dawson and Cecil Lower officiating.  Interment was in Mount Hebron Cemetery at Maysville.

Myra E. Taylor 100, formerly of 500 Carskadon Lane, Keyser, WV died Monday, May 03, 1999 at the Heartland of Keyser nursing Home.

Born October 02, 1898 in Medley, WV, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Parsons and Emma Gertrude (Stingley) Taylor.  She also was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Creed Taylor on March 14, 1967 and by two brothers, Thomas and Paul Taylor and by five sisters; Nellie Miller, Virginia Irons, Irene Cohen, Jean Cook and Clara Lee Taylor.

Mrs. Taylor was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Keyser and was a former member of the Calvary United Methodist church, Keyser, where she served as the church organist 40 years and was a Sunday school teacher.  Mrs. Taylor also attended the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music in Winchester, Virginia.    

Surviving are one stepdaughter, Anna Lee Taylor, a resident of the Dawn View Manor Nursing Home, Fort Ashby, WV; one step son, Rienhart Taylor, Pittsburgh, PA; two nephews, Rex Miller, San Francisco, California, and Art Irons, Lewiston, Maine, 10 step grandchildren, 28 step great grandchildren, 15 step great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted in the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Keyser, on Thursday, May 06, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jay West and Rev. Sue Culbertson Jarrett officiating.

Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, WV

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m.

Mrs. Ruth Anna (Rohrbaugh) Turner, 91 of Petersburg, died Thursday, June 12, 1997 at the Grant County Nursing home, Petersburg, where she had been a resident since November 10, 1993.

Born January 17, 1906 in Grant County, she was the daughter of the late Noah William and Katie Ann (Keplinger) Rohrbaugh.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Olie Turner, August 19, 1861.  They were married May 05, 1925.

Also preceding her in death were four brothers; Sherman, Lester, Paul and Vernon Rohrbaugh; four sisters, Pearl McDonald, Alberta Rohrbaugh, Clara Rohrbaugh and infant Bessie Rohrbaugh.

Mrs. Turner was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Hebron United Methodist Church, Petersburg.

Surviving are two sons, Justin I. Turner of New Creek and Eugene B. Turner of Maysville; two daughters, Mrs. John Luerieta day of Selma, North Carolina, and Annie Turner of Petersburg; one brother, Noah Rohrbaugh Jr. of Maysville; three sisters, Edith Hawk of Elk Garden, Dessie Carr of Rawlings, Maryland and Wilda Carr of Baltimore, Maryland: 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday afternoon at the Basagic Funeral Home chapel, Petersburg, with the Rev. Raymer Cox officiating.  Interment was in the Maysville Cemetery at Maysville.

Memorials may be made to the Grant County Nursing home or charity of choice.

Robert H. Turner, 68, of Ypsilanti, Mich., died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at his home.

Born July 21, 1929, at Springfield, Ill., he was a son of the late Robert W. and Daphane (Conner) Turner. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Colleen.

Mr. Turner was educated in the Chicago public schools and studied at the University of Illinois and Northwestern University. He served two years in the U.S. Army as a military policeman and three years in the Naval Reserve. He was employed in the insurance industry, retiring from Mutual of Omaha in 1987. At that time, he started his own agency, specializing in student insurance. He was a member of the National Association of Life Underwriters and the American College Health Association. He had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1966, where he served on various committees and as an usher for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Rose Marie (Swick) Turner; two daughters, Kimberly Turner-Shelton and Sheila Gillman; one brother, Richard Turner; half-brothers Ronald and John; and half-sisters Carol, Nona and Rosemary; and grandchildren Logan and Kirstan Shelton and Sabrina Gillman. He was the brother-in-law of Herb and Helen Hartman, Bob, Roger and Sharon Swick and Virginia Phillips of Petersburg and John and Barbara Swick and Kathleen Roomsburg of Moorefield.

A memorial service was Nov. 18 at the First United Methodist Church, Ypsilanti, with the Rev. Terry Allen officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Michigan Heart and Vascular Institute of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital or First United Methodist Church of Ypsilanti.
